And well deserved too --- Wicks out-played, out-enthused, out-thought and out-scored in all grades. Lucky to pick up BPs in 4s and 1s. Both sides went into 1sts without key players and the Rats lost Angus after just a few minutes and then also lost his replacement (Arnold), both to head...

    Shute Shield 2016

I should add (removing my totally unbiased Wicks hat) that the Pirates were their own worst enemy. They clearly have significant potential and really challenged the Wicks who didn't get on top until the last 15-20 minutes. However, the Pirates lacked patience and leadership when scoring...

Really, 5 tries to 2? Wests didn't look like scoring again after the first 20 minutes. How were they unlucky?

Anyone know the extent of Harry Boileau's injury and when Mitch Short will be back?

    Shute Shield 2016

I assume Guildford and Daryl Gibson were together at the Crusaders and this influenced his signing by the Waratahs, but I would have thought there's probably a few players in the SS who could have been given a chance at the big time instead of him.

He dropped an up-and-under cold yesterday (knock forward), with no pressure from chasers.

    Shute Shield 2016

Not sure how many replacements West Harbour used agst Penrith but the run on team totalled 88 points in that game as well so they might have gone close or over again. As I said above the new rule means that teams have to make sure their run on team plus replacements total no more than the points...

    Shute Shield 2016

The relevant point under "Guidelines" is: 2. Cap applies to all players taking the field in each grade. I think it was "BellyTwoBlues" who pointed out earlier in the season that this meant that what you are suggesting did not apply ie all players are counted into the total and there is no...

    Shute Shield 2016

That used to be the way the points worked, but I believe it changed this year so that all players who take the field during a game have their points included in the total. I understand this was partly to stop clubs abusing the fresh player rule by running on players in lower grades for a few...

    Shute Shield 2016

The only problem with blaming the ref for losing a game is that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. May as well not worry about trying to correct your own team's mistakes because the bloody ref will screw you anyway ;)

Thanks for your concern and advice, but we'll muddle through somehow.

    Shute Shield 2016

I've always had a real problem with the so called "team yellow card" concept ie where a series of transcretions by different players results in a player who has done nothing wrong previously in the game (eg Donlan) spending time in the bin. In this case, at a critical point in the game and a...

He couldn't follow up his performance from last week -- no points today! Good effort from the Wicks given they trailed 5-14 after about 20 minutes, and then didn't allow the Pirates to score again. Especially without Sonny Satuala, Tristan Goodbody, Mark Baldwin, Sam Croke and Mitch Short...

    Shute Shield 2016

Assuming the NSWRU website is correct, and I can add up, West Harbour exceeded the player points cap in 1sts today by quite a margin. Their starting lineup totalled 88 points and they ran on the veteran Tom Hikila (16 points) and several other replacements. Wonder what the penalty will be...

    Shute Shield 2016

Donlan was a victim of several previous transcretions at the breakdown by Manly players. The ref warned the captain that he would bin the next offender and Donlan clearly left his feet (and may also have entered from the side). Not saying I agree with the decision, but that appeared to be what...

He's the love child of Seamus Frost and Andrew Deegan ;) Andrew Deegan actually scored 15 points and Seamus Frost 5. The unpaid intern at the NSWRU has been signed up for more training.

    Shute Shield 2016

Hanigan played the 1st half, out of his moon boot at last. Nick Kellaway and Mitch Short both out of theirs too, but didn't play yesterday. Munro recovering from last week's head knock didn't play. Unlikely we'll see any more of Drew K or Horwitz this year so can't really count them as missing...

Good summary Sid, agree about the kicking --- kicking under the conditions was a good tactic but the execution was seriously flawed. I thought the Manly forwards did an excellent job at the breakdown and their two front rowers really troubled the Wicks defence all game. Lane and Deegan had an...
