Anyone know how the system works in NZ? I was working there for 12 months a few years ago and the message from my work colleagues was that there was no "elite" pampering of young guys -- they had to earn their positions in super rugby by playing in local clubs and then the ABs. Not sure if...

We can argue the technicalities of individual cases until we're blue in the face, but anyone who thinks super rugby and the wobblies don't rely on vibrant and strong senior club competitions in Sydney and Brisbane in particular is living in the same fairyland as the ARU -- IMO:cool:

OK, but they both played plenty of club rugby also didn't they? What rugby would they have been playing if the SS wasn't available?

I read an interesting article the other day about David Horwitz which credited his good form in the Tahs first 2 games this year with the fact that he's been training with the Tahs for the last 2 years. No credit given to the fact that he's been playing SS during that time or to his coaches at...

Season previews on Rugby News website for Parra, Wicks and Gordon (although I couldn't access Gordon) contain each club's INs and OUTs. Other clubs to follow.

Wicks beat Southern 7 tries to 2 (by my count). Even first half, Wicks ran away in the last 20 minutes.

If you haven't already read them, I can recommend Brett Papworth's two articles on the Rugby News website regarding the decision by the ARU to not give any funds to club rugby. I think he's summed up the position of most people associated with clubs in Sydney, but I'd be interested in others'...

Dave, great to see Marshall Milroy (or maybe we should call him MMMMM) running around in the 7s on Saturday and showing the young guys how to play the game.

I thought the Club 7s was a great initiative but it was easy to see that some teams had put a lot more effort into the preparation than others. I'd like to see this develop into a separate event involving all 12 SS teams and played at a proper stadium like Concord in the future.

I agree Belly, their defence especially was great in the preliminary games, although I didn't see the final. The Wicks had Tom Connor and Sam Figg who've both played a lot of 7s and were coached by the coach of the NSW women's 7s team so I expected they would do very well.

I was watching at the local club with the sound turned down so I couldn't hear what the talking heads were saying but I'm absolutely certain that great supporter of club rugby, Bill Pulver, would have asked them why they weren't showing the final :rolleyes:

Can't believe Fox showed 3 talking heads for 30 minutes instead of showing the Wicks v Parra game. What were they thinking? Hope the ARU take that into account next time contracts are being negotiated. Fox you are crap!
