    Keep checking the Roar
  2. Strewthcobber

    Queensland Reds 2025

Born in Brisbane, moved back to NZ, played rugby union through primary school, moved back to Brisbane for high school, played rugby league at Marsden HS, recruited by BBC in Grade 10, played rugby union there. Background in both, like so many of our other players

2024 Under 20 Rugby Champs all match discussion thread

We would have gone through as top of Pool B in place of Ireland if we had beaten them
  4. Strewthcobber

    Queensland Reds 2025

If we want to go back far enough, Ikitau played rugby in NZ before moving back to Brisbane (and playing league for a while)

2024 Under 20 Rugby Champs all match discussion thread

To be fair to the Irish, it's what the laws of the game instruct them to do. The tournament is compromised enough as it is with 3 pools. Stuff like this just adds to the farce

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Wouldn't be close if you exclude all the non-paying players etc First Google was Eastern Suburbs. Gate takings for 2023 was $94,000. Works out around 650 people buying a ticket per home game

France runs on sponsorship to a much greater extent then most other places. Sometimes that's a billionaire. Who knows in Japan.

    Australian Rugby / RA

France and Japan are the only ones. Even the Premiership in England survives on Six Nations funding

    Australian Rugby / RA

I don't think it really matters whether we think we will improve or otherwise. We don't have a choice. We can't afford to pay 5 teams of professional rugby players in Australia. It is what it is.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Always been full of Victorians in winter SH. It's a tourist town. They are just playing to their market.

Don't fall for the reach numbers! Apple v apples it's around 7.2m for the SF v 3.3m for last week's SOO game. The Matildas had 89% audience share which is just crazy

    On the website now too

The Reds are going OK because they got a massive taxpayer funded grant, which is fine, but as a taxpayer, I like to get the credit.
  14. Strewthcobber

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

Of course they are a great safe option at the moment that would be a lot less safe if refs/WR (World Rugby) actually enforced existing laws of the game
  15. Strewthcobber

    Wallabies v Wales, 6 July

I reckon it's the slow robotic nature of the whole process, that the opposition can't do anything about, or stop. Plus the blatant illegal stuff that never ever gets stopped. The offisde halfback playing the ball back with his hands through the caterpillar, while two blatantly offside blockers...

International Matches in Winter not involving Oz, NZ and SA

Sad to see Canada falling away so far from where they were. QF in 1991. They actually beat Scotland only 20 odd years ago

    Not necessarily. (Yet)

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

They wanted to watch NZ v England before the Aus v Wales test match
  20. Strewthcobber

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The answer to this stuff is usually some combination of what else was on, and how many people who start watching the rugby (the reach #), actually watch the whole game (the average #)
