    Shute Shield 2017

Hopefully the Super players are a lot fitter than the lower grade players whose games start at 10:45am. And almost all the Super games are played at night. Not all of the SS grounds have good enough lighting for night games.

Anyone have any information on the date / venue of the Sydney Club 7s? I thought it was going to co-incide with the Sydney 7s as per 2016 but, Dave, you said this was not the case. Any updates? Is it going to happen this year or was it a once-off?

You're misreading non-existent words between lines that aren't there. I was simply making the point that $700k spread amongst 12 clubs (if that's what this line in the accounts means) wouldn't go very far. It wasn't a criticism as we all know the NSWRU struggles to even break even. Any funding...

    Fairly sure they were: Round 1 (19/3) -- Sydney University 46 v Eastwood 39 Round 14 (18/6) -- Warringah 35 v Parramatta 15

I'm not saying that --- please see my response above #634

No, I'm just saying that the $60k per club (if it is going to the clubs, which I doubt) is only about 10% or less of the total cost of each club putting 7 teams on the field. The clubs finance themselves through sponsorship etc.

Less than $60k per club. Less than 10% of club expenses I would suggest. Thats assuming this is going to the clubs. Could be something else. Sent from my SM-J110F using Tapatalk

Does the NSWRU provide any funding to the clubs? Sent from my SM-J110F using Tapatalk

I agree with your interpretation, but I don't accept there was any ulterior motive as some have suggested. If the ARU doesn't want the various components of rugby to work autonomously then they need to provide better leadership.

I guess each of us will read between the lines and draw our own conclusions, but I'm curious to know what point you think the draw is trying to prove.

You've made some very good points TOCC, most especially about player welfare. Makes me wonder whether the ARU considered the impact on the SS when adding another team to the NRC, or even discussed it with the SRU. Sure the SRU were aware of the extra team before they released the draw for the SS...

    Sydney Colts - 2017

Does Henry Hutchison's inclusion in the U20s squad mean he is returning to 15s instead of 7s?

True at the international level, but many of the clubs enter teams into the various 7s tournaments around Oz and of course the Sydney Club 7s is all 15s players.

I hadn't heard that, last I heard it was on 4/2 at Kippax. Good if it has been separated as I think it deserves to stand alone. Last year Fox didn't even show the final --- they had talking heads while it was being played. Kiama 7s is 25/2 so I hope it doesn't clash with that.

    Shute Shield 2017

The club 7s is running at Moore Park on the same weekend as the Sydney (International) 7s tournament (3-5/2) with the final played on the Football Stadium I assume, as per last year. Many of the other 7s tournaments (eg Kiama 25/2) run at this time of year also starting with Darwin (21/1)...

I'd suggest he has (correctly) won that argument. But surely we still need the baseline foundation of the clubs? I note that Uni picked up a couple of players for their first grade team last year from their joint NRC venture with Balmain the previous years so even subbies have a role in the...

Couldn't agree more, but it's always going to be difficult to achieve when the man at the top of the ARU seems to think the Premier Rugby comps are not as important as the clubs think they are.

Or even 2 or 3 weeks if time is required for pre-comp training etc.
