Worth remembering that clubs seldom get to hang on to their rockstars for more than 1-2 seasons. Harrison Goddard only lasted 1 season at Wicks before being signed by the Rebels. And add to that rep games, a few being recruited to 7s, injuries, some promoted to 1st or 2nd grade and the turnover...

Maybe we can enter two 1st colts teams ;)

Sorry, I wasn't commenting on the issue of some clubs picking up more school leavers than others (or defending my club), I was just making the point that the points issue doesn't apply if some of them end up in grade. As has been canvassed many times in this and the SS forum players go to...

As per my earlier post, we shouldn't assume all of these school leavers will play colts this year. Kellaway and Horwitz (has only played 1st grade) came straight from school to grade and I think Goddard did too (?). Hanigan also started in 1st grade straight from school, but then dropped back to...

Has any code or sport in any country come up with a points / salary cap system that (1) evenly spreads the talent and (2) the participants don't spend all their time trying to find and exploit the loopholes or (3) just blatently try to find ways to break the rules without getting caught?

    Sydney Colts - 2017

The above discussion assumes that all of these school leavers play colts this year, of course. Several clubs / players have bypassed colts and gone straight from school to grade and I think about 70% of 2015 colts moved up to grade in 2016 at the Wicks. It will be interesting to see what happens...

Hope they've put some seating in at Woollahra to replace the stuff they picked up cheap from some primary school. Hard to watch 4 grades with your knees up under your chin.

I agree Dave. It would be nice to hear from the ARU and NRC re the timing of the SS GF. From the Q&A it appears they were involved in the discussion, but I haven't seen any comments from either body as to whether they have a problem with the timing or not.

It's a no brainer that people are more interested in watching winter sports in winter rather than in March when we're still likely to have beach weather. Finishing the comp for the teams who don't make the playoffs in mid-July is crazy.

It's the other way around isn't it? 3pm kickoff here during DS is only 2pm in Brisbane so they kickoff an hour after us (actually 1 hour 20mins as they start at 3:20pm)

Should we throw daylight saving into the mix? It ends in NSW on the night of round 1 so games will effectively start 1 hour later than they would have if the comp had started mid-March. No daylight saving in Qld.

Yes, good point. Wouldn't like to be a lower grade player up there.

I notice Coleman also complained about the unfairness of the 18 round comp, with some teams playing those teams which finished in the bottom half of the table last year twice, whilst others only play them once. I think I've heard that somewhere before (about 100 times) Full...

At least one Wallaby appreciates the impact the SS had on his development! I'll always remember a rampaging run he made down the left wing at Coogee, sidestepping the fullback to score adjacent to the posts.
