    Shute Shield 2016

I think week 1 (Qualifying Finals) is: 1 v 6 2 v 5 3 v 4 with the 2 lowest placed losers eliminated (so only 1 can't be eliminated) Week 2 (SFs) is: highest placed winner v lowest placed remaining team the other two play each other Week 3 (GF) is: winners from week 2 So assuming 1 and 2...

Yes, so can I. The ref should have been aware of the situation but the AR is supposed to assist him if he misses something, especially if it's an ongoing problem. The real problem is that the ARs are volunteers some of whom don't have any qualifications or understanding of the rules. To take...

JFT, my understanding of law 20.1(e) is that a side with less than 15 players on the field may pack fewer than 8 players in the scrum and, if they do, the opposing side may match the number of players in the scrum, but are under no compulsion to do so. I believe the 6 man Souths scrum occured...

The scrum situation in Wicks v Souths 4s was weird. Souths started the game with unconstested scrums but throughout the 2nd half Souths packed only 6 or 7 in the scrum. The ref called them twice to pack 8 in the scrum but missed many scrums with fewer than 8 packed. At one stage Souths packed a...

The scrum situation in 4s was weird. Souths started the game with unconstested scrums (not sure why as they seemed to have enough front rowers) but throughout the 2nd half Souths packed only 6 or 7 in the scrum. The ref called them twice to pack 8 in the scrum but missed many scrums with fewer...

Alofa Alofa is selected in 1sts this week --- assuming you can believe the team selections posted on Wednesday.

Because history is "the study of past events, particularly in human affairs". And it wasn't a lone example as there was another one last Saturday. Sure all clubs have probably done it, I was just pointing out another example to support the one HJ referred to. I'm happy to concede that the Wicks...

Forgive my ignorance but has Locke ever played rugby before? If not, then what's the point of just playing 3 minutes in 4th grade to qualify for the finals? Surely he needs to play as much as possible to learn the game, unless he's injured of course. To answer your question HJ, maybe the...

Boileau has been selected at 10 in 2nds so Goddard remains at 9.

Yes, good point HJ. I noticed he was lumped with 16 PPs so he might not be that easy to fit into 1st grade either, given that Hoiles, Freier and Phibbs add up to 28 points between them!

Another kid who's bypassed Colts and gone straight to grade from school and has already started in 1sts a couple of times. With Harry Boileau now recovered from injury and Mitch Short going well it will be interesting to see where Goddard gets selected. Can he drop back to Colts?

Harrison Goddard scored 35 points (3 tries and 10 conversions) in 2nds agst the Pirates. I know Gareth Smith kicked 13 goals agst the Rats back in 2003 and that's the most goals kicked in 1sts for the Wicks but does anyone know what the most points in a match in any grade is?

Alofa Alofa played well (2 tries) in 2nds for Wicks but considering the quality (or lack thereof) of the opposition it wasn't hard to look good. He could be a chance of playing 1sts with Horwitz, Kellaway and Robinson presumerably not available and Lachie Anderson missed the game with injury.

John Ballesty played for the Woodies in the GF?

Brook Street was open some Friday nights and after home games for a while. I'm told the Coogee Bowlo had arranged some sort of temporary lease from the new owners, but that seems to have fallen through. Post game festivities have been held at the Coogee Bay Hotel (Wicks' sponsors) for the last...

It's a closely guarded secret ;) Actually there is no clubhouse currently but the trophies etc are secure and well looked after.

Whilst we have to respect what Uni and Woodies have achieved over the last several years it would be nice to see another team win this year......and even nicer if that was the Wicks!
