I said it i the match thread but Alcock>hodgson and Lynn should be in our wykes. The force were way to light weight in the tight for this game.

Also #christieout.....

I thought it was more like a player's core competency
you can lead a camel to water.and all that:)

The best game-plan in the world isn't going to help you if you can't communicate it to the playerss, or if they ignore you.

No need to panic yet; first game, etc. But as far as earned respect goes, I think the Force boys may have put the book into the red on that one.

I havent seen the whole game - what i have seen confirms your view.
I you look in the Wallabies Watch thread you will see players lacking core competencies being picked in the "form" XV.
This is not just a Force problem.

Very disappointing loss, guys. I must admit I was not expecting such a poor performance after the little light I saw in the first round.
Once again plenty of ball possession in the first half without capitalising much on the scoreboard, once again poor performance at the lineout, once again easy penalty kicks and easy conversions outside the uprights, once again holes in defense like a swiss cheese and several handling errors. Those things led the Force to a very discouraging loss and let us see a dark future for the franchise.
Hopefully the Western Force can still improve, because in my humble opinion the flaws are clear:
1 - the game plan shouldn't be anymore "let's make a lot of straight ball carries against a well-organized defense" (which explains both quantity of possession and lack of points) and shouldn't be anymore "let's kick the ball somewhere on the field because we don't know what to do with it" :D
2 - we need a reliable kicker in the starting lineup
3 - in the game plan, we need to involve mainly the backs, centres especially, that can break the line and create space for other players
4 - we need to improve a lot in defense and at the lineout
That's why now I don't understand the reason why the Force signed some players that should have helped to fix those issues (Ebersohn and CTM are the first names that come to my mind)
If nothing changes, well, it's going to be a hard time next week in Pretoria against the Bulls

Eaton signs short-term contract with the Force

Western Force have signed former Hurricanes scrum-half Chris Eaton on a short-term contract.
The No.9 has been brought into the Super Rugby squad as cover for Brett Sheehan who is still recovering from the ankle he broke in his run-on debut for the Wallabies against Italy in November in Florence.
Eaton, 28, trained yesterday in Perth with Force squad members who have not travelled to South Africa.

We scored 3 tries. 1 not allowed. That's 5 points. Then we missed how many penalties? Well 2 conversions and 2 penalties I think but then we turned down easy shots at goal because of the kicking. With a good kicker we would of pulled away with the game. We were not putting nails in the coffin at critical times and the kings grew every time. I blame the kicking 90%. The forwards went great with the pick and driving making lots of meters.

We lost the game because we couldn't get points off the boot. If anyone watches it again ( a kings fan would lol) count how many shots were turned down.

The whole kicking/turning down kicks becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You miss your first few kicks and end up falling behind on the scoreboard and then become increasingly gunshy in taking more shots at goal because you're behind on the scoreboard and you have the mentality that shots at goal are unlikely to net you any points.

It does seem pretty apparent that the Force have to find a better kicker than Godwin. He was terrible at the U20 RWC and in two games so far this season has shown that his goalkicking ability is being accurately reflected in his poor success rate. It would seem a foolhardy option to think that he will be kicking with a high level of accuracy anytime soon.

One of the problems with the Force over the years has been their tendency to chop and change from one week to the next. If Godwin is the best kicker in the team then keep having him take the kicks. Get a specialist kicking coach in if you have to and a sports psych to work on his nerves. We are supposedly a professional rugby team with a very good coaching structure......find a solution!

Sias appears to be the solution, although I haven't minded Christie at 10.

Fowler is the kicking coach one of the reasons Mike Harris is such a good kicker give him time.
