Is there some logistical reason why this trial is not being played in the evening?
How hot will it be when the curtain raiser is being played?

Maybe concerns about lighting?
Can't imagine that would have been the case since the match isn't been broadcast.

I think Allen is a “dead man walking” as CEO of the Tahs. Some of it is out of his control, but he has been in charge as the Tahs position deteriorated on and off the field. He has been in the role since October 2010 so he shouldn't be surprised no money has been set aside for “a rainy day”. The thing that may save the Tahs this year is if they earn a home final which will generate some much needed revenue.

I reckon they would have had an inkling that HSBC may not re-sign as sponsor towards the end of 2012 since the announcement was made in early 2013. So Tahs admin should have had plenty of time to consider various scenarios and budget accordingly.

Also, it may have been helpful if they recruited a Commercial & Marketing Manager with local knowledge and experience rather than someone from the UK. Then they may not have needed to pay $$$ to hire an external consultant to help find sponsors. They don’t seem to have done a very good job if they have only announced Volvo, so far, as a new sponsor just weeks out from the start of the season.

IIRR, the Canterbury clothing contract ends this year so it would be interesting to see what happens there.

Unfortunately, sponsorship seems to be directly correlated to participation, which in turn is a reflection of the performance of the entity within the competition, as well as the attraction of that competition when compared to other competitions.

Put simply, more sponsors would be chasing the Waratahs with fistful of dollars if the Waratahs were winning more than losing, with a chance to make the finals of the Super15. Further sponsors would be forthcoming to the Waratahs if the Wallabies can achieve their goals,e.g. Bledisloe Cup, RWC, etc. (the spin off effect).
Why..............................more fans!!
Go do the maths. What the Waratahs are currently trying to achieve under Cheika is the only way.
Either that or multiple chicken raffles.

I have played Brumby Jack in a previous life, hopefully the teams aren't stupid enough to put someone in a mascot suit today!

Santa is fake, Easter Bunny is fake, Tooth Fairy is fake but Brumby Jack is real. Wash your mouth out with soap.

It would only be part-time. Mehrten works in the city for financial planners and his boss gets a bit of time off to do other stuff; so there's no reason why he shouldn't too.

His CEO is Phil Kearns.

The firm has just been sold; so you never know they might both be out of a job but the new owners have said they will keep the "brand" of the company.
.

I thought that JOC (James O'Connor) was gooone.

^ Jealous Pfitzy?

He kinds of looks like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) if he went into hibernation for six months.

Is it a good sign that one game into pre-season we are only worried about our players having too much hair? And to think that some were worried Buddy Franklin would have KB (Kurtley Beale) back on the soup.

There has to be some irony in Kearns being the CEO of Mehrtens. After all the years of battles between the Wobs and NZL teams featuring Kearns and Mehrtens, with the Wobs not always on the correct side of the scoreboard.

Do we add "Guess who your boss is?" to the lexicon of ANZAC Rugby sledging, to go along side the discussion between Kearns and Fitzpatrick when Kearnsy pointed out rather graphically that Australia had won 2 RWC's.:)

There has to be some irony in Kearns being the CEO of anything.
He is CEO of a financial planning company, it is essentially a sales organisation

I would suggest he would be pretty effective at getting the initial meeting and now rolling in to close deals

Grant Hackett has done quite well for Westpac doing the same type of stuff.

Even if someone isn't that interested, they will take the meeting just to meet the guy
