FARRRRRRK. He was very cagey wasn't he.
I actually just wish they'd be upfront fom the get go, rather than have all the rumour & conjecture float around.
Get well Drew.

i managed to speak to him last week and he said it inflamed in a different area so while its a related injury its not the same. dont think they actually know a timeline, it could respond to treatment it might not, thats the reason for the speculation.

Stephen Hoiles has been apart of the invitational Waratahs set up since early Janurary from reports he will be ready to play some game time within 2-3 weeks. Could be a very handy backup 8 to add to the list.

Good thing we named an 8 man leadership group considering Elsom, Vickerman, Barnes and Mitchell aren't playing.

Yeeeessss. It turns out just 8 men was a gross underestimate.

I guess there is no real reason to have the captain come from the leadership group. Apart from the obvious ones.

I didn't see him in the 3 practice sessions I saw this month but that is not a big sample. Nor was he invited to play in either of the two trials, though other people were.

I am glad that Lopeti got his chance on the bench and that Hoiles wasn't cherry-picked from outside the 35 - also pleased that he was chosen ahead of Metuisela. The only invited player Foley is using in the 22 is a 7, Jono Jenkins. He could have used Metuisela but he is an 8 or 6 and wouldn't have brought any more to a 22 than Lopeti would. Besides, Foley would have expected Queensland to pick both Gill and Beau in their 22. Therefore a 2nd fetcher was needed to counter.

A question that could have been asked back in the day was: why was a spot wasted in the EPS with the selection of both Metuisela and Lopeti in it? The answer would have been because of Cliffy's injury record.

A question that arises now is that: if Lopetii or Cliffy get crocked, will Hoiles be cherry-picked over Metuisela, the last non-prop forward left in the 35, apart from specialist lock Peterson. Metu has been steady rather than brilliant in the trials, and dropped a few easy balls in both. But using Hoilles, with his dodgy achilles tendon history, is something to be avoided IMO.

Now we just need to get the Tahs to redo their 2012 ad on FoxSports.

Can anyone pick the three players who they showed scoring tries from 2011? (Here's a hint: you are unlikely to see any of them in a Tahs jersey in 2012.)

Oops, forgot to post a reply to this last night. Three players: Turner, Mitchell, and Beale. Oops.

Thanks for that!

It wasn't Deans who took the risk - it was Mitchell and it was worth the risk to be apart of the WC. I won't say he wouldn't regret it because he got injured but he knew the risk and thought it was worth it. I'm not sure if his latest injury is even related to playing in the WC. He did the hammy and he's recovered 100% from it.

You mean you didn't see the guards with their shot guns and the snipers forcing players to train and play for the Wallabies while not 100%

Deans took a huge risk playing him in the WC game... Stupid Move.
I have to agree wioth qwerty on this - I dont think his current injury has anything to do with the hamstring injury he suffered at the World Cup. I think this is as a result of the previous injury which should have had him out for 6+ months, but instead he was only out for 3-4. It was his willingness to play in the WC that has cost him.
Also, we (Wallabies) werent short wingers at the WC - so I dont think that Deans would have cared either way.

I agree as well. In fact, of the "recovering" players taken to the world cup (Horne, Palu, TPN, Slipper, Barnes and Mitchell from memory), I would've taken Mitchell, TPN, Barnes and Slipper. Palu and Horne were probably a step too far for me, considering how many others were recovering, but the rest I would've taken, including Mitchell.

I wouldn't have taken Mitchell, based purely on his injury. Don't give a flying f&%k whether he was running or not, risk was to great. Once you have a fracture and a chunk of metal in a limb, particularly that close to a joint it a) takes ages to settle and show any problems and b) the loss of strength is huge and take a long time to come back.

I tend to agree but they must have got medical advice, and he would have too
