Due to his Australian ancestry, Jowitt does not require exemption to play for New South Wales under either the developing foreign player or marquee player rules.
Must have a grandparent or something?

What might an "or something" be? :)

does that mean that David Dennis is moving on, possibly north?

He would be smart to, he doesn't have a contract with the Tahs, it would depend on who are the contracted backrowers for the Tahs. I don't have a list, but Doherty & Robinson are gone, Fava is a crock ....................

Of those (left) from last year, Waugh, Palu, Mumm and Mowen are thereabouts.

Mowen was the one that immediately sprang to mind for me. I like how he plays, but if the lock stocks are suitably stiffened by some of these recruitments then you'd think Mumm would be taking out a mortgage on the number 6 jumper. I guess Mowen could play off the bench as back row 'utility'. If I remember correctly, he was played as such a bit this year previous.

Mowen was one of our best players last year, most lineout steals in the comp and everywhere in the loose. Surely we'll start him, if fit.

Don't get me wrong, I seriously rate Mowen. He was probably my favourite Waratah this season especially for his work in the loose which didn't get recognised nearly enough on the telecasts.

Thing is, for my mind Mumm is a better 6 than a lock. If you could get two serious locks in a Waratah pack then Mowen is in the situation he was when he came to the Tahs, where he's behind Mumm for 6 and Palu for 8 which raises some questions about where to play him.

I'm not personally sold on the battering ram style 8s, so I don't mind the idea of a Mumm/Waugh/Mowen 6/7/8, but I suspect many would disagree with me on that. It may be that his performances so far will push Mumm into the second row again, but if there's genuine locking options, I am not sure that will happen.

Even so, its a good selection quandry to have.

At the moment we don't know that Caldwell will be fully recovered, we seem to have loaded the squad with some decent size locks we seem to be light on backrower back up

With a bit of luck Will Caldwell will report fit for duty in 2010. And if Douglas (is he still on the books?) and Thomson finally step up we look good for second-rowers with the addition of the two young blow-ins.

Depth is very important here as Caldwell, Mumm, Douglas, Jowitt, Thomson and Roodt are at different stages of their rugby development. Add in the odd injury, or sickness a la Will's, and they should all get a run.

Gee, there's a traffic jam at 6 for the Tahs next year. We could do with another big bruiser, or two, at number 8 though.

In reality, Mowen is the 7, and Phil Waugh is the 6. That is essentially what ended up happening in the 2nd half of the Tahs' season. Mowen has the speed in the loose that Waugh no longer has. Waugh tends to focus on 'leadership' activities, like pointing out people that he wants other teammates to tackle. He is a great delegator and has a bright future in middle management ahead of him. Keeping him in the side means you need a 6'5" lineout option with mobility. Ben Coridas is 6'4" but will need to improve his ball winning in the air to push for Mowen's spot.

Isn't it good to see how many of these young fellows Sydney Uni develops.

Interesting also to note that McKibbin was born in Scotland. That is probably his best bet for a test jumper.

Does anyone have any info on the "unknowns"?

They can all bugger off to Europe or Japan, none of them are good enough for Super rugby. Take the money while you can, boys.

Sign Dennis to join the Tahs' number 6 club, he'll be better for the Wallabies experience and will surely be needed by season's end.

That was my thinking
