It's a strange one, because after moving on from Gregan there was really only one clear choice for captain at the time and that was obviously Mortlock...........

I wouldn't read too much into the captaincy thoughts on a bloke who last coached 7 years ago. Not really sure how valid his view is when he only coached maybe 3 players in the current group, and as noted, it was 7 years ago.
Is Knuckles reinventing history a bit? Not only didn't he name Moore captain for the 2007 RWC, he named two vice captains and neither of them were Moore.
The logic that because Moore was almost captain in 2007, he should be made captain now doesn't really work. Any of the players who could be named captain ahead of him now weren't in contention in 2007. He could be the second, third or fourth choice in 2014 just as he was in 2007.

Still, one of the hookers may have a massive sustained spike in form between now and the RWC too. We don't even know if Pocock will definitely be back and get enough game time by then, if he will be at his best, if his best will be better than what Hooper brings to the table.

The captain needs to be a good enough captain, that even if he isn't the best player in his position, his captaincy is worth picking him over the other player.
No captain has ever not had another player push for their position at one period of time. Long term captains have still be consistent performers and good enough leaders to be picked over them though.

Yeah let's not make Hooper captain because of the potential of Pocock returning yet Moore is fine because TPN is not a threat despite being 3 years younger, currently playing and actually played a better game last week..

My only concern is Hooper not Captaining the Tahs (can we get that happening), but that's the same for any Brumby as well. Leaves you thin.
Either way lets pick Hooper, if Pocock comes back and oust him so be it, Hoopers are smart enough guy that he wouldnt care if it happened if Poey was playing better.

Lots of debate around who will be captain, but the recurring theme is that is really depends on who is going to be the starter, or who may make way for someone else once they return from injury, yada yada.
So let's look at it from another perspective. Who in the squad right now is an absolute monty to make the starting XV regardless of others being available, all day every day, up to and including the RWC?
The captain may well need to come from that pool of players to get some continuity.

But Daz, that's the thing. No single player is an absolute certainty.
Whilst everybody here agrees that Moore, Fardy, To'omua, Slipper, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Folau will start, that doesn't mean that will not change in the next 15 months.

Absolutely - especially with injury. However all of those blokes + Hooper have performed to the top level for the past couple of years and reckon they will continue to perform at a level from which they will be hard to shift
