If he's listed as a 10 option so he can provide bench cover for Foley, I'm happy. If he starts, we might lose to France!

John Hipwell (52)
Love the second row selections. No matter what we will have at least one debut there in the first test.
Mogg would have been a good choice with the boot. Cummins and Horne not recognized kickers. No out and out speedster in the squad.
Pek Cowan.....well done son!

ditto for you Hodgo!

Whats the problem with Beale, I think he provides that X factor the back line needs. Can't have all the defenders marking up on Izzy

Larry Dwyer (12)
Cowan's been very good all season, so good to see him there. I think Longbottom was much more deserving of training with the group than Ryan though, who's been pretty poor this year IMHO.

Disappointing to not see Cottrell in the mix as well, but no doubt he'll be in the setup sooner rather than later.

Looks like a decent squad overall, and glad to see some young players rewarded for their performances this year (especially Carter, who does the hard work but doesn't get a mention too often becasue he's not too flashy). Really hope Beale isn't allowed anywhere near the 10 jumper though!

No strong goal kicker is a concern. Its gunna be either Foley, White, or Lealifano. Foley and White are pretty fresh and untested, Lealifano off form.

Also a clear captain is still in question. Hooper probably.

Yeah, it's weird that the captain wasn't announced at the same time...

With To'omua named as a centre, Lilo is out of contention for a starting berth so it won't be him. The only options are Foley and White. We know one thing already - Genia, Beale won't be the halves combo!

My first test team:

Slipper
Moore
Alexander
Jones
Simmons
Fardy
Hooper (c)
Palu
White
Foley
Cummins
To'omua
Kuridrani
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
Folau

TPN, Sio, Kepu, Skelton, McCalman, Genia, Leali'ifano, Beale

That is what I predict will be picked. I would have McCabe on the bench instead of Lilo though.

Also a clear captain is still in question. Hooper probably.

I think Hooper is a great player in all facets of his game but question whether he has the right temperament YET to be captain. There are times when, rather than discuss issues with the ref, he whinges at them. That is not the way to get respect from match officials. Give him a few more years and a bit more maturity then yeah, he probably will make a good captain. And no, I don't have any suggestions of my own, other than Moore because of experience.

Ditto across the board, with McCabe for Lilo (although I'd probably swap THs).

I agree, but there doesn't look like any other options at this stage. Horwill shouldn't make the starting team let alone captain. I'd prefer a young Hooper as Captain over Moore though. I wouldn't argue with either AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) or Fardy given the role temporarily either.

Interesting that we've gone from picking wingers to having a bunch of utility backs, Cummins excepted.

On the 10/12 allocations

Maybe McKenzie wants to build on the shape to the wallaby game from last year and having To'omua (Lilo if injured) at 12 outside Foley (Beale if injured) is the way he wants to play it.

That gives him robust defence/carries and ball-playing/kicking options at 12 with some spark at 10.
