I'm not just talking about captaincy, I'm talking about a place in the team. Hooper might be able to do it this year, but who's to say Poey gets his groove back and returns to the 2011 form.

You could question whether any single player in the team is guaranteed a starting spot a year from now.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) can cover 12 if he has to. Beale's scored match winning tries for us before, he's got a weirdly good mental hook up with Folau and he generally makes shit happen. I know he's burned a lot of people before, but skinny!Beale is a proven matchwinner and too good to not be on the bench.

Hard to pass on Beale's incredible talent, given space he can bamboozle any player on the planet. I'd have him in the back three or reserve for same. Give him a remit to inject himself and to create for Folau in counter attack from depth.

But please, not at centre, he needs space, is that worst of centres, a crabber, and can't defend.

Excellent synopsis of what Beale offers in Version 2014.

I'm on side with the punters that think Fardy should be picked at lock this season. Probably paired with Simmons and then you put Horwill (or other) on the bench with a versatile back rower like McCalman or Cottrell and you have endless options.

Also think TPN has had his day in the sun and Charles is the form 2 of the Aussie conference. Pek Cowan is also in good form and is solid. Can't hurt to try anyway, Alexander always ends up on his face.

Will leave the backline selections to the experts!

It'll be interesting to see how the tahs go at scrum time this weekend against the Lions. The Lions scrum has probably been the best aspect of their play this season. a good performance from the likes of Robo and Kepu could still see them win a wallaby spot

I think the choice for captain is rather obvious....

Force the week after too.
We could see if Longbum is a genuine option.

Being that we have no out and out finishers available I would be tempted to start Beale on one wing or at least have him on the bench as cover for every back position except 9, mainly the back three.
No-one can really consider McCabe an option on the wing at the highest level. In fact it may come down to one or the other as the back up 12 in the squad.

Balance is the key in the back row and I would opt for Higgers at 8 with McCalman on the bench. Clif Palu is basically just an 8 and not really good for a full 80 these days. Higgers and Hooper are dynamic and will feed off each other while Fardy brings a tighter game.
Charles has earned his spot on the bench and the reserve hooker at the Tahs may be worth a look ahead of TPN as well.
To'omua at 10 with Beale at 12 is interesting if Links decides not to start Quade. Beale in-between Toomoua and Kuridrani could be a good combo.

Lot's of options there and it should be an interesting squad. Having both Jones and Fardy in the 23 gives extra cover at 6 leaving the gate open for either a specialist 7 or 8 on the bench.

Who would be a selector?

at 12. Lilo without a doubt.

That's a pretty disingenuous argument though, isn't it? You wouldn't be picking Beale because he's the second best 12, you're picking him because he can cover almost every position from 10-15, can kick goals, has a great connection with Fulool, and can shred tired defences.

Lilo had half a great season at 10 two years ago, although apparently he wants to play 12, and is a fantastic goalkicker from within about 40 metres. I love the guy, but he's not been in top form and Beale gives greater versatility and game-breaking ability from the bench.
