Wallabies v Georgia 20 July - Allianz Stadium 3.45PM

This is such a poor approach.

You've completely ignored "Is their headgear in the teams colours?", "Is their jersey tucked in?" and "Are their socks up or down?"
Yes… McReight and Gleeson are still playing in their under 7‘s head gear …. Red … so they stand out. Can’t recall any All Blacks wearing red head gear. So my 321 points always go to the guys in the red head gear!

I'm going to get more concerned if someone starts playing in the purple "don't tackle me" shorts

So Wilson will be getting points this weekend.

You base your scoring on the basis of the "official MOTM"?

No, I selected Valetini for my 3 points in the first test and Gordon got 2.

The fact remains though that the overwhelming majority of posters (all but 3) picked Gordon among their MOTM votes for the first test. My comment was more on the basis of BR trying to make some sort of objective reasoning as to why he didn't give Gordon votes in the second test where the evidence from his first test voting makes it seem very likely that Gordon wouldn't get points regardless of how well he played.

BR actually voted for Gordon once back in 2023 and gave him 2 points.. Edit: This was likely Carter Gordon

But to otherwise settle the great debate of BR's Player Voting trends, clearly it's the Reds & Rebels who miss the most through parochialism. POTY Votes 2023-2024 ;)

Doesn't take into account who performed well in each game. If Brumbies players have received the most votes then parochialism wouldn't really factor as they are the best players. Need to compare it to all votes by everyone to see a trend away from the norm.

What if everyone else is not voting for the Brumbies players due to their own parochialism? BR might be the only honest one amongst us

Interesting feedback from Schmidt on Wilson

Schmidt, meanwhile, has clear ideas about what he wants to see from Wilson on his return.

“For a big man, he’s a good athlete. So we want to see the athleticism,” said Schmidt. “He’s got good skill set. I think probably just the consistency of that skill set.

Harry Wilson poses during the Australian Wallabies player portrait session at Event Cinemas Coomera on June 23, 2021 in Gold Coast, Australia.

“He’s got to demonstrate that every time … and staying in the game.

“Because of the way some teams play, he plays on the edge quite a bit and I think sometimes he can drift a little bit and then he’s not in the game. With a guy like Harry, he’s got to stay in the game.

“Even if he’s not immediately around the ball, he’s got to stay connected to what’s happening so that he’s ready when the ball does become available. And if he is, he’s a weapon.”

For Wilson, his international career has been a “rollercoaster”, and he’s ready to heed Schmidt’s advice.

“That’s been my Test career so far, in and out quite a lot,” said Wilson.

“I’ve just got so much hunger to be in the squad and try and remain in the team. And I guess that’s all going to end well if I can go out and perform for the team and do my job.

“There definitely are times when you’re questioning yourself. But I know I’m still young and there’s a lot of footy in me in the future. You always have that confidence in yourself where you know you can get back to this arena.

Agreed.

I guess looking at the 2023 votes, the only time the 3 votes matched the GAGR consensus was Nick Frost being MOTM against Fiji.

I'm 90% sure Jake Gordon only polled one solitary vote in 3-2-1s before this year, and that was from @Braveheart81 for filling in on the wing against South Africa.

Not super relevant, though it does add some credence to the argument he still has a fair way to go to prove himself at this level based on his test career to date. FWIW I think he is progressing well in that, though the questions remain about his ability to play at pace both well and consistently on either side of the ball.

100%. I think it's very clear that the first Wales test was easily his best test match and the second Wales test very likely his second best test match.

He has undoubtedly been unable to transfer Super Rugby form to test form prior to 2024. A couple of times where he's put himself in position to be selected for the Wallabies at the start of the season (such as France 2021), he's lost his spot pretty quickly.

Clearly he thought his time was done because he finished the Super Rugby season seeking to leave and commence a contract in Europe. Instead he's Schmidt's first choice 9 for the Wallabies. It will be interesting to see how he goes against the Springboks in the Rugby Championship. With a new coach and a somewhat blank slate it seems like he's got a prime opportunity to cement himself as the first choice 9 for some time after a strong start.

Makes you wonder if Kieran Read was also born in the year 2000, would he have had the same criticisms made of him. One would argue that the All Blacks could afford that luxury but it certainly does seem several coaches have a view of Wilson not being what the modern game needs.
We ain't the all blacks, we are just not accurate enough at the clean out and/or not powerful enough to compensate for our inaccuracy, everybody needs to put in a more rounded session

I'm looking forward to seeing what Wilson can produce this weekend. I thought he was outstanding in Super this year and feel like he was unfairly overlooked by Eddie last year. Now he's got his chance he really needs to take it...expecting a big performance.

I think if he really shines he could move himself up the pecking order. Whatever you think about Georgia, they'll certainly turn up with a strong forward pack, good set piece and robust defence. Any forwards that can really make an impression on Saturday deserve to be inconsideration for the 23 moving forward.
