Wallabies 2024

Agree with all of this apart from PE.
The stats dont lie: 4 nations games the wallabies have scored 107 for and against 213. The wallabies can score points just cant defend. Watching the game on the weekend the wallabies dont understand drift defence. Constantly Kellaway was flying out of the line trying to tackle 13 and made an outside channel that the AB exposed. As well there are guys who cannot tackle on there inside shoulder! Hard to believe at this level. The Wallabies no 10 was exposed early on when Barrett cruised through on the wallabies No 1o inside shoulder, luckily Wilson was there in cover to clean up. The tough question has to be asked why dont the wallabies understand basic defence structures? arent these taught at these Gen Blue, reds academies? If I was Schmidt tighten up the D and you might get some results coming your way. I would employ an NRL Specialist defence coach and start from ground zero, I know the Union fraternity may not like the idea but holy smokes it's the same old same old since 2003.

I’m not a fan of PE either but what are our options? How do we get kids playing rugby again? I’d love to see some stats of number of 15yo and 25yo playing rugby in 1990, 2000 etc by decade through to today. That would tell you the problem, it’s not individual talent it is lack of players which drives the lack of talent.
No point soap boxing about paywalls and lack of grass root funding for the last 30 years. What is the fix? There is bugger all sponsorship, too much old school tie on the board, and no money. Lions and WC give breathing space but are just bandaids.
RA need a genuine, funded multi decades strategic plan to build the youth player base. It should be free and very well supported. I don’t give a damn about the professional teams or academies, that can sort itself out when the numbers are there.
There’s money there in Europe, SA, even Asia and US for rugby, but not here.
I genuinely do not like PE but cannot see an alternative to get our youth playing base back to where it needs to be.

I could easily see a scenario with JS and Len in the centres together. I still maintain, however, that one of the two centres has to have a passing game. Which one of them do we think it would be?

None of our back row are athletic enough to be world class to be honest, and Wilson is the least athletic of the bunch.

Sititi showed more in one game then Wilson has in five seasons.
Wilson is very skilful, but has always played "light" when it comes to the grunt stuff, but at the moment, our best option and his interplay with McReight is an added bonus

Our next viable 8 option is Bobby V, but then you need an actual 6 who is viable enough to fill the gap

Really need some of our 6 options to get fit. We used to have loads of them.

Shame Kemeny left - I'd say he'd have a few caps by now.

What I've been saying all year. AK (Andrew Kellaway) has been a defensive liability for the Wallabies this year.

The Wallabies have been a defensive liability for the Wallabies all year. Individuals miss tackles; poor defensive structure loses games. Our poor structure creates the gaps that kill us from constant retreating in defence.
But yes, Kellaway has been poor, no argument.

Why is he too small? We need to worry more about players fufilling their roles than what the scales say

We don’t have a Ma’a Nonu. We have what we have and we need to cater a plan around the players we have instead of bemoaning what we don’t
It’s not size; it’s the fact that he’s not athletic enough to be a world class centre. He will constantly be playing people with equal football smarts, but they will all be faster, stronger and probably bigger.

This seems to me to be drivel. When Ikitau is "on" he is very good. His "off" is much less than 12 or 13 others wearing gold on the field.

Len, think he needs to be transitioned into a 12.

Look, maybe. Heaps of presumptions with this and we all forget that none of really know what is happening in the D. I'm not dissing Paisami either, just suggesting that 12 in an obvious slot for an unknown talent to potentially look for opportunity..
