Where you have to rest players by agreement, logic suggests that you rest your players for an away game involving a chunk of travel and play them in the home game in front of your fans who want to see all the best players.

Sure you could opt for the reverse but you risk losing the game against the weaker opposition and you annoy your fans who don't get to see the test stars play.
Fair enough reasoning BH, I jsu go by the idea it's important to do what you can to win the comp, and trying to knock over Crusaders would be in my opinion more important to Brumbies fans than seeing their test stars against MP (Moana Pasifika).

Mind you . and now someone will tell me what a good crowd they had last week ( I don't know what it was) and prove how little I know anyway!! :D :mad:

NZ and Aus teams aren't impacted by injuries/resting in the same way.

The top 15 players for each side are much closer than the 16-30 players. We see this all the time when the benches come on too.

Or you can rest players against Fiji, and weaken the side already suffering injuries, and have them hand you your arses. But of course, because it was the Crusaders, that's ok, hey?

No BR I was suggesting that players could of been rested last week, against MP (Moana Pasifika), I wouldn't suggest too many against Drua, especially if you play them in Fiji. Just if I was coaching Brumbies or any team, I would be thinking if we knock the Crusaders over, we put ourselves in with a better chance to get home knockout games. It just seems a little negative to me is all, and perhaps just because I'm a fan of trying to finish as high up the ladder as possible, I think as a fan you would prefer that wouldn't you.
If they rested players against MP (Moana Pasifika) last week, they would get to bye within the required 5 weeks, so wouldn't of needed another rest week for them until after that, then rest a few against Force and you can pretty well see you through to knockouts!

He's referring to the fact that the Crusaders rested players against the Drua in Fiji and lost.

You are kidding, the Crusaders are decimated with injuries, and here is a chance to make it hard for them to get home semis etc. Thay could of rested players against MP (Moana Pasifika) (Moana Pasifika) last week surely.
I was joking, I dont think they have no chance. Hell Lonergan is a better player then White so far this year

You have missed my meaning Dan. I wasn't suggesting the Brumbies should rest their players against Fiji. I was simply commenting on the situation where the Crusaders did that and were unexpectedly beaten*. The same thing could easily have resulted had the Brumbies rested 4 or 5 players against Moana last week.

I think it is more likely the Brumbies will finish higher on the ladder by beating Moana and perhaps losing to the Crusaders than to have possibly lost the two games. I'm sure with a bit of time to reconsider, most would come to that same conclusion.

I think it is more likely the Brumbies will finish higher on the ladder by beating Moana and perhaps losing to the Crusaders than to have possibly lost the two games. I'm sure with a bit of time to reconsider, most would come to that same conclusion.

Just a thing with me , I would be mightily pissed if the Canes decided to rest top players against the likes of Crusaders, Brumbies etc as I want them to beat top teams where they can, not only putting them further up ladder, but put hard teams further down and lessen risk of playing them at their home ground in knock outs etc. (And I admit I wouldn't be great coach as I would go at every game possible anyway, and not maybe look at full picture)

I understand your sentiment Dan and ordinarily I'd agree, but not with the enforced player stand downs, which in the Australian context hit the Brumbies a lot harder than the other teams.

The Brumbies had a three week window for resting players, and they chose this week as the other two games were at home including the Tahs match...

The Brumbies, by virtue of their dominance in recent years, have been hardest hit by the requirements. Overall, nine players will miss two games and not be permitted to play more than five consecutive weeks.

With the bye in round nine, Larkham had a three-week window for the first rest cycle. Last Saturday's home game against Moana Pasifika, the Canterbury Crusaders on Friday and next week's showdown with the Waratahs in Canberra.

While there was no easy choice, the Crusaders emerged as the best option.

A trip to New Zealand on the back of a short turnaround and wedged in between two home games, it was always going to be a tough assignment.

The news surprised some fans. Surely last week's clash against Super Rugby newcomers Moana was a better option?

Given the Brumbies lost to Moana last year, it was not an automatic victory and resting players would have robbed the club's fans the opportunity to watch the team's best players at home.

And to be honest when you (or I) think about it, I suppose the Wallaby rests are planned in by coaching staff at beginning of year, so maybe weren't to know the Crusaders were going to be so vunerable.

Absolutely. Many, if not all, of the players understandably embrace and are enamoured by the Pasifika culture being the central tenet of the club - it's a shame the powers that be have not done the same.

There is no reason to watch MP (Moana Pasifika) games especially compared to the Drua who put on a great show at home and seem to have more of an identity about them.

Like most I agree would be great to see them play home games in Islands, and be based there actually, but where? Problem is seems to be facilities as well as not being a one island team, they could be in Samoa,Tong or Fiji. Not even sure what playing grounds would work for travelling there for home games.

Literally just play 1 game in each of these stadiums, so Tongans and Samoans can watch "their" team....

Be great idea, surprised there not been some moves in that direction, maybe waiting for sponsors? Surely the MP (Moana Pasifika) management looking at something.
