Also, is the split round so that the colts can play it on one weekend and play the finals a week earlier?

This has got to be one of the worst games of Rugby I've seen at this level for a while both in execution by both teams and by the officials.

Maybe but this is pretty dire particularly from Norths. I think Easts will win but haven't even looked remotely dangerous with ball in hand. Norths have defended stoically but seem resolute to run at the man instead of using the clear numbers advantage they have found themselves on a few occasions. I guess it easier to criticise from afar but neither of these teams are playing like contenders. Give me Parra any day of the week. I hate this split comp concept.

I should also say that I can appreciate a tough hard fought battle but this game most certainly it not one.

Maybe ABC should have televised the Schoolboys Final game from Riverview. This is being a bit of a yawnathon.

Poor decision making and skills execution throughout the entire match. It was played at a hectic pace yes, but, that doesn't excuse away just dire game play. Scott Farva needs to cut Hardisty's kicking foot off. The most enjoyable aspect to the whole game was the Norths stoic and often rattling defensive effort. Apart from that both teams were poor with Easts being the poorer of the two. The pitch looked pretty heavy so may be that played a part.

That said, I am happy Norths won. I thought they were the better team regardless of what the possession stats say. I just thought that in a game such as this that the better team would likely end up losing. Glad to be wrong.

Woollahra becomes an absolute bog if the humidity goes above about 50% - the water table is extremely close to the surface. It would be a lot worse to play on that it looked on TV - as shown by the area behind the advertising hoarding on the eastern side!
Notwithstanding this there seemed to be no adjustment made for those conditions - miracle balls being attempted in all stages of the tackle etc.

On a darker note it would be great to get some momentum behind this thread and keep it at the top: http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/community/threads/seti-tafua.11205/

Exactly, just plain thoughtless and unintelligent Rugby. The game could have been good if they adjusted their play to suit the conditions but instead kept the 1% plays as the norm.

Eastwood have held on to top spot after securing a 35-31 victory over Southern Districts, despite playing the majority of the match with just 14 men.
A red card to in the first half didn’t stop the Woodies from holding on to grind out a 35-31 win over Southern Districts at T.G. Millner Field.
The win was a courageous one for Eastwood who looked to have too much to do, after a red card to flanker Aisea Namoa allowed Souths to turn a 12-point deficit into a six-point advantage. But the Woodies played to their strengths, keeping the ball tight and grinding out a win to secure top spot on the Shute Shield ladder after 11 rounds.
In other round 11 matches, a double to Waratahs centre Tom Carter helped Sydney University defeat Parramatta 38-5 at Merrylands RSL Rugby Park, while a massive eight-try haul by West Harbour ensured a solid 48-36 victory over Randwick at Coogee Oval.
A double to Michael Dalton helped Warringah defeat Penrith 47-10 at Pittwater Rugby Park and an impressive hat-trick of tries by Manly’s Richard Hooper guaranteed a 29-0 victory over Gordon at Chatswood Oval.
Eastwood 35 (Chris Hill, Miles McCaffrey, Tom Alexander, Lachlan Turner, Tim Williams tries; Ben Batger 2 cons, 2 pens) d Southern Districts 31 (Marcus Heather, Matt Swann, Grayson Hart, Apo Latunipulu, Nicky Price tries; Rohan Saifoloi 3 cons)
Three quick tries to Eastwood, including one to HSBC Waratah Lachie Turner, put the Woodies out to a 17-5 lead. It was short lived, as Namoa was red carded for a tip tackle, allowing Southern Districts to capitalise for the remainder of the half, going in 26-20 ahead at the break.
With 14 men on the field, Eastwood’s hopes looked slim and a try to Souths’ centre Apo Latunipulu looked to have put the game to rest. A try each to replacement winger Tim Williams and lock Tom Alexander helped them regain the lead. A Ben Batger penalty goal forced Southern Districts to go for a try with 10 minutes to play, but they couldn’t land the killer blow.
Eastwood held out for a courageous win that keeps them in the top spot on the Shute Shield ladder after 11 rounds.
Sydney University 38 (2 Tom Carter, Sam Talakai, Matt Schwager, James McMahon, Angus Roberts tries; Daniel Kelly 3 cons) d Parramatta 5 (Maile Latukefu try)
It was Back to Parra Day at Merrylands RSL Rugby Park and many were predicting an ambush of the Students. However it wasn’t to be as the Sydney University juggernaut rolled on with two impressive tries to HSBC Waratah Tom Carter. The victory sees the Students bounce back after losing to Eastwood last weekend and pushes them into second spot on the Shute Shield ladder.
The defeat hands Parramatta their second loss in as many weeks and will leave them needing the bye week to regather after an impressive season so far which has seen them stay in the top six for the majority of 2012.
Warringah 47 (2 Michael Dalton, Luke Holmes, Tim Donlan, Hamish Angus, Edward Doyle tries; Hamish Angus 2 cons 3 pens, Josh Smith 2 cons) d Penrith 10 (Tala Mapesone try; Fred Tuua con, pen)
Warringah pick up an important psychological win over Penrith as the two teams look set to play each other again after the split. Rats flyhalf Hamish Angus picked up an impressive 18 points to help secure his team a home victory. The Emus were looking for their fourth win of the season which would have allowed them to leapfrog the Rats on the Shute Shield ladder.
West Harbour 48 (2 Shaun Treweek, 2 Michael Ala'alatoa, Barton Jones, Tevita Havea, Oleni Ngungutau, Kiwi Kapene-Belcher tries; Kiwi Kapene-Belcher 4 cons) d Randwick 36 (Peter Samu, Toby Browne, Tom Joseph, Ethan Ford, Keith Masima tries; Toby Browne 4 cons, pen)
A massive eight-try haul saw West Harbour smash Randwick at Coogee Oval. Thirteen points to Kiwi Kapene-Belcher on his maiden first grade appearance of 2012 was a highlight in the Pirates’ victory.
The points were piled on early but Randwick responded and kept in touch throughout the match. But the Pirates never looked like losing and take the points in a great team victory.
Manly 29 (3 Richard Hooper, Jordy Reid, Josh Mann-Rae tries; Josh Mann-Rae con, Marshall Milroy con) d Gordon 0
Manly winger Richard Hooper, brother of Brumbies’ flanker Michael Hooper, grabbed three tries in an impressive bonus point win over Gordon at Chatswood Oval.
The Highlanders were wearing pink to mark their Ladies Day but it was the Marlins who upset the big crowd on the day, with their NSW hooker Josh Mann-Rae getting in on the action, scoring and converting his own try.
Eastern Suburbs and Northern Suburbs will complete their round 11 match next Saturday, whilst all the other 10 Shute Shield teams enjoy a bye before the table is split for the remaining five rounds. The draw for rounds 12 to 16 will be determined by the Club Championship standings, with the top six and bottom six in this table to play each other for those five rounds. Points from these games will continue to count towards the Shute Shield ladder, with the top eight teams on the Shute Shield ladder after round 16 progressing to play in the finals series, which starts on 28 August and wraps up with the Grand Final on 15 September.
Thanks once again to Nick Halfhide and the NSWRU for this week’s review.

Shoreman Seti
SYDNEY: Seti Tafua — an integral part of the Norths RFC 1st Grade squad — suffered a serious neck injury that has rocked the rugby community. His injury occurred in a second grade game against the Warringah team. Seti landed on his head awkwardly and dislocated his C5 and C6 vertebrae, causing damage to his spinal cord and leaving him with no motor skill from the waist down.
Norths RFC held a club meeting and counselling session on the 25th of June for its players. It was also attended by the Seti family, members of which had arrived from New Zealand and Samoa.
Norths RFC club doctor Stephen Freeman addressed the meeting and provided a medical appraisal of the extent of Seti’s injuries and what to expect over the coming weeks and months. Dr Freeman explained that ‘when Seti went into the ruck… he hit his head awkwardly, which caused a dislocation between the C5 and C6 vertebrae… the combination of a stretch during the dislocation, and then the slip forward — causing a crush — caused damage to the spinal cord.’
Dr Freeman further explained that ‘the level of Seti’s injury is low enough to preserve his diaphragm function – so he can breathe by himself – but high enough so he could have loss of function of his arms, and legs, and weakness of his torso. It appears that Seti has regained some arm function, but he still has only patchy sensation and little or no motor function below his waist.
‘Over the next few weeks, as the initial swelling resolves, and the spinal cord recovers from the initial trauma, the degree of injury will become more apparent. The specialists are predicting that Seti will likely have some arm function, but is unlikely to regain the use of his legs. However, the permanent effects of the injury will not become fully known for some time.’
Seti’s mum made an emotional speech about how Seti enjoyed playing rugby for the Shoremen and his love for the club. Scott Fava said later: ‘It was a really emotional night. Seti’s mum was amazing, so strong. She said we just have to keep positive and keep moving on. She told us how much the club meant to Seti.
‘It’s been a tough week but the amount of support in terms of offers of money, time, auction items, everything, it’s been mind-blowing.’
Norths RFC has thanked Easts Rugby Club for postponing matches in all grades and allow the Shoremen to breathe.
The Norths leadership group met to discuss fundraising ideas for Seti and his family for the immediate future, and once he is released from hospital. Players have donated their match payments so an iPad could be purchased for Seti to watch movies while in hospital. Norths designated the game against Sydney Uni as a tribute to their brother and how much he put into the club.
Several types of fundraising activities will be held at North Sydney Oval on Saturday, 21 July. All funds raised in support of Seti will be directed to a specific bank account that has been established to manage his financial needs in the immediate and distant future.
If you would like to make a donation to the fund, details of the bank account are:
Account Name: Seti Tafua
BSB: 082 401
Account Number: 138 711 833
(taken from the Norths RFC site http://www.northsrugby.com.au/news/donations-for-seti-tafua-611480.html)
The message below comes from the Facebook page set up for the appeal at https://www.facebook.com/SetiTafaustayStrongBrother
Seti is in good spirits today. While I (pods) visited with him today a doctor of let’s say Indian decent arrives to ask SETI a few questions…. As the questions draw near Seti casually asks me “pods, do you watch the big bang theory?” “yes why?”
Doctor “anyway SETI I’ll come back soon”
SETI: “cheers Raj!!!”
Stay strong, Seti.

I thought the Easts v Norths game was the worst I've seen this year in the Shield. Poor option taking, loads of penalties, dropped ball etc etc. I expect a lot better from both teams to be honest.

Agree totally.
There were players in both teams capable of better.
Also can't remember seeing a game with so many 1-2m pick and drives straight into the ground (Wallabies V Scotland excluded).

heard a rumour today Jerry Collins has been released from his club commitments in Japan and trained tonight with the Two Blues.

I really hope that's true..........but why the hell would he go to them?

Because he reads G&GR and he heard Sarel Pretorious was going to be released by the Tahs. Given their history of recruiting never was' or has beens, he thought he'd back himself for a marquee spot?

I think the source of the furphy on the "Jerry Collins to the Rebels" thread has acknowledged that it is indeed a porky with no legs.

Despite that admission from Kronic, the story seems to refuse to die a natural death.
