Turinui is playing for Dax in French second division.

he has just signed with stade francais re-newing his Randwick connection with mates Cheika and Chris Whitaker. Interesting Dax only just avoided relegation into 3rd division

Mike Harris just tweeted that he's just had his first run since the operation and it went well. Icing up and keen to run again tomorrow.

Possibly fullback? Tapuai has been playing well and Harris is good defensively and could play the role that Lucas did. I'm happy either way

Harris didnt go so well at Fullback in South Africa... seems to struggle judging the highball

Too be honest, I have pushed for tapuai inclusions in squads very hard on this board.

I watched the Force match again on the weekend, and his defense reads were not great. He is also not terribly combative at the defensive line, ie he gets into correct position and tackles with good technique, but often gets beaten in contact. Still a good backup, however if I were picking the side I would prefer Harris.

Regarding fullback, Harris looked lost when he played there. I would love Lucas to be back and fit, however we do not lose that much with Jono at the back. They are both strong defenders, Lucas is probably better at the breakdown but Jono is far stronger in contact and a better ball carrier, while also being able to distribute. Don't get me wrong Lucas is fantastic, but we don't lose much with Jono fit and healthy.

I'm a little surprised that I didn't see the Force try the same tactic as the Stormers (that had Harris moved from fullback, or was it the Lions?). Anyway, given Jono isn't a regular fullback I'm surprised that they didn't try him under the high ball too many times - if at all?

I think the point you may have missed here is that Jono is taking the same role as Lucas had. In defence thay are up in the line defending at 10. This is when the opposition does their offensive kicking and Quade is then back at fullback. Jono and ben don't get the chance at counter- attack. I also thought Jono did a pretty good job. While he may have turned it over a couple of times his defence was pretty strong and as someone said, his carries were good

I see what you're getting at but whoever it was in South Africa that was testing Harris under the high ball, they weren't doing it from set piece play while Cooper was at the back (as the Reds were still defending set pieces this way back then too).

Under tournament rules, players are only eligible for the play-offs if they have appeared in at least three games for a franchise.

I saw the above in an SMH article about Vickerman.

Applied to the Reds, this will mean that Jono Lance is unavailable for finals as this (Chiefs, final round) will only be his second game. Equally, (although it is now unlikely anyway) that means Peter Hynes is out even if he gets fit as he has only played 2 games this year.

Geez, Benny Lucas better come good...

Wow that is a very harsh rule. If a bloke has been in your squad all year but hasn't got a gig, why could you not use him in the finals? Sounds a bit mad to me.

I think the rule won't be applied to registered squad members, but to players who have been recruited to fill a gap like caleb ralph.

Yep, I agree that's what it should be etc. Has anyone been able to find this rule to confirm? Can't see it anywhere

I reckon the rule is only for mid-season signings. Shouldn't affect players already in the squad/academy.

precisely, otherwise its conceiveable that a team would actually have to play a finals match with less then 22 players

I have very fond memories of watching Caleb play when I a little younger. At 33, he is still capable of playing good rugby - but I am not sure how hard he would have been training. At his best he was a very creative footballer who made very few mistakes.

Really excited about this. Good luck to him.

Interestingly though for all the talk about his age and fitness, he's still a spring chicken next to some of the blokes playing in New Zealand Conference. Umanga, Brown, Thorn.
