Terrible news for Tom. Hope for a speedy recover over 2014 and a massive 2015.

Local stocks of soup-ready Hookers are a little thin (think most of them are signed), so might have to look overseas. Hore is an interesting option indeed - ready made impact and I reckon there is another soup season in him.

That's terrible news both for him and the rebs, really needed him to step up there. Can we throw a bucket of cash at Hugh Roach before the tahs finally make their mind up on him?

We should offer him an EPS spot, which is more than he's guaranteed at the Tahs.

Pat Leafa deserves to be upgraded, he's a promising player who really gets involved in the PI and Vic rugby community.

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
He has been on ABC TV saying he wants to be a Waratah.

However if his intention is to be a professional athlete, then he will go where the money is. Can't fault the lad for that, but you bloody Mexicans can still keep your hands off him.

That is shattering for Tom.

Also makes Damien Hill's decision not to give Shota Horie more game time in 2013 look even worse.

Not that I think Roach is a good chance to come over, but there's more to it than money.

At the Tahs you have an established hooker and a coach's favourite (Latu) coming through. How much game time do you think Roach will see behind a developing player had picked by the coach for a full contract in his first year? The very same coach who's obviously still um-ing and ah-ing over whether Roach deserves an EPS spot.

The Rebels on the other hand have Leafa and Horie, neither who really have the jersey nailed down. Hell, if the Tahs are his dream his best bet is probably to do a Hooper and establish himself here then go home.

He was still training with them today. Cheika has one contract and one EPS spot left, and one will be a prop and the other a hooker—but is keeping his cards close to his chest.

They are also looking at a couple of other players to convert to hooker as well, just quietly.

Sexton has time on his contract……they wont be signing any longterm cover unless they give Leafa or Horie the boot

Any hints as to who?

A player playing his first year of professional rugby is hardly a signed, sealed, and delivered long-term player.

Plus, I'd argue they very much could sign long-term hooker as Leafa is going year-by-year and I strongly doubt that Horie will be with us for another year seeing as the corporation he's aligned with is doing him a courtesy by even letting him play here full stop.

No, it was told to me in confidence, and is just a left-field type of thing anyway that probably won't have legs.

Not quite to the point: but I mentioned in 2012 when I saw Tolu Latu as a LHP in the Oz Under 20 team, that I wished he would be changed to hooker—and lo and behold he is one now in Super Rugby with a full contract at age 21.

I'd like to see more mobile LHPs being tried out as hookers in Colts as I don't think we do enough of that kind of thing in Oz rugby.

Incidentally LHP Tim Metcher is training with the Tahs, and not one of the players I hinted at, but he is another who could be a good hooker if tried out there.

And there's a big mobile lad young lad on the Oz Schools tour now, Matt Sandell, who played THP for Joeys and LHP for NSW Schools, who could be another Stephen Moore if he is converted to wear the 2 jersey. I said could be.

And let's not forget that TPN played 6 and 8 for Oz Schools.

But I digress.
