Ultimately the preference is to keep Petaia, but potentially he needs a break.

There’s a high chance he won’t be picked up even if he attends the NFL International Pathway and he could return to rugby mid-next year. Maybe it’s the break he needs, mentally and physically.

I don't mind Petaia being offered an opportunity to testthe NFL International Pathway. Nor being welcomed back if the likely result (not being required in NFL) happens.

I really have no idea but if Rees-Zammit can make it into a squad then surely Petaia is pretty much guaranteed to be the next Gronkowski right? I mean some people say Petaia is overrated (they’re wrong) but Louis is the king of instagram followers>talent.

Maybe not, I think it's just as likely he takes the year off to have a crack and then makes his way back to the reds, possibly dependent on cap space (Vunivalu's contract ends at the right time for that though). Most of the talk about the NRL interest is that he wasn't that keen on it, and assuming he misses out on the NFL he may not want to waste more time getting up to speed for another code switch. Probably a bit dependent on his departure being on good terms, but it sounds like it will be so far.

The bigger worry would be then losing him to Japan at that stage - they'd likely be able to offer more money and probably more career longevity give his injury history.

Guys on the program like Louis don't go towards the hard cap the NFL requires teams to follow. So other than paying his salary it's effectively a free hit at picking someone.

Gronk was a generational player. He has Brady were completely unstoppable.

Even in rugby neither Louis or Jordan have shown to be in a similar mould I'm afraid.

If Petaia does go it'll be an interesting shuffle in the middle. We only have Henry as the current designated centre (with Flook and Hunter). So we need Henry to stay fit if Petaia goes. There is that Churchie lad from last year who looks promising but would we be rushing him next season?

Did anyone notice that Campbell was referred to as a fullback, winger and outside centre by Kiss after he resigned during the week?? It seemed odd, has he ever played there, even as an injury replacement during a game?

I would have thought Aubrey is the understudy for fullback position. Is his preferred spot and has been playing well for GPS this season. Would be keen to see him get some minutes there for the Reds in the offseason games.

True he is a chance, i'm yet to be convinced by Aubreys ability to play at that level though, he is good at QPR level but doesn't standout as much I thought he should. But he is still young so maybe that premature to say, he was killing it through colts.

Great showing from O'Connor last night. There has been a bit of talk that he was playing for his contract for next year, if that's the case I'd have the lawyers drafting it first thing on Monday morning. He clearly still has plenty to offer, both pulling the strings on field as a playmaker and as a senior voice around the squad.
