Which players “quit” on the Reds as you put it?
Players move on for a variety of reasons. Unless you personally know them you can’t say that

No, I guess I can't, but that is how it feels when someone leaves, especially when they then comes back as a last resort because the team they left for collapses. This is particularly the case when they could have stayed but chose to leave rather than not being given a option to stay.

I have been one of the first to applaud players who leave for personal reasons, they are all one injury away from losing their livelihood so they should make the most of their opportunities to set themselves and families up for the future.

I guess it is lucky that this is an internet forum and different people have differing opinions, it would be pretty boring if we all came here and said the same thing.

Off topic, but figured this was the best place to post this given it receives more traffic than the QPR thread. Up to $200 vouchers for kids aged 5-17 to play sport - may as well feed as much into the local clubs as we can.

I would not put Daugunu in the same category as players who semi recently left on probably unfavourable terms with Reds.

The back end 2023 he was not consistently picked in the starting team under Thorn. 2023 was the last year of his contract so he moved for a fresh start at another team in Aus with more starting opportunities. I wish more players made domestic moves like this, as he could have easily left for France or Japan for way more money. The Rebels turned out to be a shitshow and now he is back... what's not to like?

Yeh agreed. When he left, I'm sure his contract offer got a knock with Petaia/Vunivalu & Campbell owning the back 3 and Daugunu at that time not considered a 13 option. He was no.23....thats it, and the Rebels had a good offer and a need I'm sure up their sleeve in the absence of Koroibete which all clearly worked as Daugunu had hoped now back in Gold!

Does anybody know when the team will be announced?

What for? The Reds v Wales? That game isn’t until Friday 19th July and I don’t believe they have anything until then.

I imagine they’ll name a team for that on 16th or 17th, having a close look at guys in QPR for the next few weeks.

theres 2 more weeks of club rugby - I suspect most of the important reds squad won’t play any club rugby in the lead up to wales game. (I have my suspicions)

going to be a some reds players caught out for the contest because Wales will be entering with 2 matches against the wallabies and then some reds players who’s last game was a loss to the chiefs back in May.

Not sure how much club time there will be for the Reds squad, but I think it's reasonable to expect Gatland will also be using more of his squad for this game and a fair few of them probably won't have played much rugby since arriving in Australia either.

yeah agree - the reds game will be a lot of fringe talent for Wales but still suspect it will be rounded out of the Matchday 23 from wallabies vs wales matches

Anyone know why Ryan Smith was sent home? I understand Harry Wilson and his arm but surely you would pick Smith over Blyth every day of the week???

maybe his height? Blyth is a huge man and that would be valued in lineouts.

all depends how much Joe Schmidt values dominating at set piece

Yeah Blyth has 2 inches on Smith, no? The one thing EJ (Eddie Jones) was probably right about was you can't teach being fuck off ugly giant of a bloke.

If he's decided that neither is going to play substantial minutes against Wales then keeping the one that's 18 months younger and probably has room to grow in core skills rather than the better now but probably closer to ceiling bloke.
