I do think it's a Gen Y thing. I teach Gen Y at university and I'm constantly astounded - gobmacked - at how they feel the world owes them a living.
I don't think it's a Gen Y thing at all. It's more the surroundings that influence these particular types of people (especially those who have people whispering in their ear when it comes to money). If it was a Gen Y thing, we'd see the likes of Horwill, Pocock, McCabe, Hooper, Gill, Nick White etc all acting the same way. So, that makes me think there's something up with those influencing the "trouble" makers.
It's pretty clear that the ARU fail when it comes to man management especially when compared with the NZRU. Anyone remember the Guildford situation (of course you do, he rocked up butt naked to a pub, smacked a few people and ran off with their women), but rather than discarding him to the wolves they publicly apologised for his antics and said they would do everything to help him.
All I can see is blame shifting going on from one party to another. Whether it be the coaching/administrative side or the players. No-one wants to accept they were the root problem so we can actually identify where we need to improve on (oh wait, wasn't that the reason why we had this review into the RWC failure, still waiting on that report).
In summary, don't widely cast your net to say it's a Gen Y situation, otherwise I'll blame anyone over 35 personally responsible for creating a shitstorm that is our economy.
