BackRow is (and has been for last two or three years) the flaw for TSC - if you can't secure your own ball, and pilfer / slow down the opposition ball, it becomes a hard game.

Playing without a specialist #7 or #8 has been an issue for TSC past few seasons - this year looks to be no exception with multiple changes in the BackRow (isn't that what trials are for?).
Didn’t Brial play as 8 last year? And the first 2 games this year. Perhaps he isn’t really an 8 after all.

I think Brial is an eight when TSC don't have a #8, otherwise he is a 2nd Row IMO.

TSC have played the new RL boy at both centre and #8 - personally I would play him in the 2nd row also - BackRow is a niche skillset.

The new RL boy has played a lot of union at 12. Many season up until U16, technically played U16 when he was U14.

Right - my guess is the size mismatch at U16 was significant - at U18 things start to even up size wise, and skillset / finesse becomes more of a factor. All of this is irrelevant for TSC, as they don't seem to have a game plan - that and the continued player position shuffling.

I would like to see the TSC #15 given another go - he didn't have his best game against Shore, but I like his go forward attitude - prefer him to run straighter rather than drift run, but he looks a good footballer.

If he performs well today, view are much more likely in taking down joeys, but not only that they become one step closer to a settled backline.

Cheers,

McGrath had an excellent defensive game.
Was an excellent debut at 12.
One step closer to a settled backline but I can’t help but think there are several more changes to come.
It’s a team that needs to find more points

Wouldn’t it be great if the GPS teams this year were picked on form instead of reputation?? You’d have to think with sides and individuals surprising on the up and downside the rep teams should look different to what was expected before a ball was kicked.
If ever there was a year this should be it. Who’s your biggest Bolter? If he can play next week I’d say Taggart could be one. Also Thiel 2R from Kings. Nether would have been on anyone’s shortlist pre season.

Others would be better placed to answer that. Just know that since Adam was a boy GPS teams, in fact most junior rugby rep sides, are picked on reputation. We live in hope that form is rewarded.

Anton is Gen Blue so I'd say he's on a few shortlists

Absolutely agree have seen a lot of games and many of the big names play over the last month. Been outplayed by lesser names week in week out. Just because you were in gen blue or on contract doesn’t or shouldn’t give you a leg up. New year best team should be picked. Just look at the game stats each week will point you to each teams key players.

Fenwicke is playing 10 at the moment. McKenzie is also on the wing not at Fullback.

I am surprised that this forum is not talking about the amazing come back of the boys from Newington. NEW backline? They should all be in the GPS backline. Their 10? One of the best if not THE BEST going around. Makasini, he made it look too easy.
I'm not seeing many others who are keeping their team productive and in it like Rodwell and Makasini are for NC. Maybe Brial and Lemoto for TSC? Anyway, there is definitely a case for him as the form player in the comp right now.
