And the Beale supporters continue to try and vilify the victim...

And the Beale supporters continue to try and vilify the victim.

Where?

You (and BDA) seem to be thrashwanking yourselves to a standstill on the point that, because Beale is guilty, everyone else is innocent.

THEN you've both got the hide to say that Tahs fans are making it into a NSW v QLD issue, when YOU are the ones playing that card.

She's a victim if she wants to be. You can't accept a judgement or apology on an issue three months old, then bring it to light again when it suits your purposes.

If Link only just found out about the texts sent in June, then it's clear she didn't feel it was offensive enough in June to warrant his intervention, or anyone senior in the ARU. When they were RIGHT FUCKING THERE IN AUSTRALIA and not on a plane over the ocean half a world away.

You bang on about Beale and his discipline and lack of personal responsibility, but when Patston didn't even check her own fucking online profiles for accuracy - a fucking FIVE MINUTE JOB ON THE INTERNET - she's blameless for ensuring her professional status in the public domain is up to date?

She quit. She's removed herself from the situation. That was HER decision, no matter how much anyone suggested it might be a good idea. End of story.

Now we deal with Beale, we deal with the actual issues, like how the disciplinary system within the team had clearly failed, and how Link needs to basically clear the air with his players (I don't give a fuck what he says, as long as everyone gets the message).

But keep applying your self-righteous double standards or jumping at shadows or whatever. I don't fucking understand it beyond assuming you've got a particularly nasty case of Victimitis yourself. More prevalent in QLD and ACT supporters I've noticed.

My main focus is supporting the team - or what's left of it - so Australian Rugby can move on from yet another pile of bullshit.

After reading the News article, it seems to me that the apology by Beale was made in an email or text message to Patston. There is no mention of that message then being referred to anyone, including Link. It could well be that Patston accepted the apology without referencing the matter to anybody else, in the "interests of team harmony". If that turns out to be the case, it is quite reasonable to accept that Link knew nothing of the text messages until just recently, as he says.

Pfitzy. The only thing we know is that Beale is in the wrong. Everything else is baseless speculation. I'm choosing to only judge on facts. Fucking sue me.

Except that clearly there was concern for legal action as they pulled the original article very quickly, and all mentions to the story now revolves around how they "found innacuracies in her LinkedIn profile... blah blah blah blah blah.... but they were unfounded."

Rupert Guinness was irresponsible in reporting such claims before fully checking the facts, and now the damage is done as idiots across the internet still reference those false claims to discredit Patston.

This is actually incorrect. Guinness never pulled the article, he simply updated it to include the ARU explanation - an explanation that to any rational observer was odd and quite clearly raised yet more questions.

I know bagging the media is something of a sport, but I actually don't see what exactly was wrong with what Guinness and Robinson did. There were inconsistencies and inaccuracies and they sought to verify them and couldn't.

Now it all may well have been as the ARU said, but it's still bloody odd and there's nothing approaching a defamation case in there.

The explanation that somebody other than Patson made her social media (LinkedIn) profile and that they made errors? As stated by many, that isn't odd. It's quite common in fact. At least it has been from my experience in much larger organisations.

No, the original article (that's been posted earlier in this thread) was removed from all Fairfax news sites the same day it was published.

And I think the "rational observer" you speak of is draped in tin foil...............

The Rand Corporation......... reverse vampires........... lizard people......... Di Patston's LinkedIn profile.............. ISIS............

Things that are irrelevant to this story.

Pfitzy, your understanding of the the workplace from a legal perspective (in terms of harassment) is borderline prehistoric.

Patston's acceptance of Beale's apology at the time does NOT make the texts "inadmissible". It may colour the degree to which a court/mediator/lawyer accepts that they were harassment but not a whole lot since her side would argue (convincingly, if other cases are any indicator) that they culture was so negative towards her that she felt powerless to do anything other than accept the apology.

The fact that she "quit" is basically irrelevant. Plenty of successful litigants (or winners in settlement) have argued that they were constructively fired when they quit because they couldn't go on as it was too stressful.

She isn't going to sue as she has probably entered into a deed with the ARU to refrain from doing so in exchange for some $$$.

One of the biggest variables in all this is whether the players views are valid, and there has been a failure to engage and motivate the "employees" or whether they are due to a sense of entitlement and resentment of anything they don't agree with.

That will really show whether it's McKenzie or the players who need to go/change.

So with at least a week of this to go, for mine it begs the question is if Pulver was merciless and cleaned house totally of all those who were / are a part of this episode immediately, and start with a clean house, would the trauma be over more quickly and the healing process already be under way?

Will the Beale "decision" in a few days close the matter? I think not with all of the questions etc.

IMHO I predict that this will be like a uncontrollable Jack in the box and will keep eating at the Wallabies until every last morsel of it gone. I know I will have it at the back of my mind for a long time to come and the WRC will be the potential catalyst for the implosion of the ARU depending on results.

Who wrote the job description for the job Patston was awarded at the ARU?
Who else was interviewed for that role?

Like many professional roles ILTW, it's been implied the role was catered for her somewhat by applying a number of responsibilities of previous roles and areas of her expertise.

Does the fact that nobody else was interviewed show any untoward behaviour or poor management? Not necessarily.

I've been formally offered 4 different jobs since 2010 with international companies. Only 1 of those was actually advertised. The remainder were interviews which came about due to my professional network and filled into a role which they waited until the right person was available for.

I can't really imagine reasonable person watching sports all their lives (rugby or otherwise) and reaching a conclusion that players are anything but grossly unqualified to offer views or have any influence at all. Go out there and tackle and cross the gain line. Shut the fuck up the rest of the time.

The challenge is a we have a small market from which to draw players.

Do people see American Football teams with these sorts of dramas often? Yes, the Ray Rice incident was grossly mishandled but the idea that a leadership group headed by a 22 year old man could walk into a NFL head coach's office and try to make policy without being told to fuck right off is bloody absurd.

Can we put to rest the idea that the ARU was somehow negligent or not sufficiently diligent by not advertising her role?

Much bigger orgs dealing in much bigger $$$ amounts hire people based on recommendations and without advertising.

Lorenzo. I don't think it's that black and white. As I stated, I see a sense of entitlement culture being an issue. But I'm not educated on the facts. For all we know, Patson could very well be a bumbling idiot and the players views are valid.

But that said, right now all we know is that Patson was successful in her role at QLD and has been nothing less than professionally adequate in her role with the ARU.
