Brums been pretty lucky this season, that's basically a full strength side isn't it? To'omua wouldn't be a starter would he

In the game he got injured, I believe they picked To'omua at 10, Lealiifano at 12 and McCabe on the wing.

Arguably they are a better side without him due to the form of Speight and Tomane.

I shouldn't get this thread off topic, but my retort is: no, as JH and WG are, relatively, of irreplaceable importance to the Reds 2012 at present, and, with those 2 out, there's no pre-made Reds Captain with any experience in that role. Thats not true of the broader Wallabies.

It comes back to the question of Test Match vs Super Rugby, which should take priority? From the National coach's perspective, why should he rest some of his key players for home test matches (let's be honest, it's not as if Robbie Deans can afford to risk losing a couple of games) because the Super Rugby coaches refuse to rotate their players over a lengthy season?

We have the exact same situation in South Africa, as I'm sure they do in New Zealand. At the beginning of each Super Rugby season, every Super Rugby coach says something along the lines of, "because of the increased length of the season this year, we are going to have to make greater use of our squad and rotate key players". But 90% of coaches don't practice what they preach and often changes are only made when they are enforced changes (injuries, suspensions etc.).

As an aside, is anyone here going to the State of the Union lunch at the Hotel Realm tomorrow?

Also, as per Braveheart's earlier post, are forum members up for a post match drink at the Wig and Pen?

Lee, I always enjoy reading your posts, especially these ones about what's happening at training. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the competing teams read them. Have your thought of making up a fake game plan that Foley or Mumm 'told' you ;)

If they're training on Lakeside Oval, opposite the SCG, the opposition (or anyone else) can come and have a look. I stumbled across them earlier this week out there and had a gander.

So its a full strength Brumby team against a Tah side missing (at least) Owen, Fitzpatrick, Vickerman, McCutcheon, Alcock, Mitchell, Turner, Horne, Foley, Rocky only fit enough for 20 minutes and Barnes maybe still sick. Jeez I am sick of running into other teams with a full squad available and us with half the team not playing. Last week the Crusaders, this week the Brumbies.....

I think what's worse is that none of the injuries are done to poor squad rotation, just some bad luck.

Hawko already making excuses I see. Still think your "half stength" tahs side has a few more wallabies then the Brumbies, and crap load more super caps. No excuses now.

The point of my post was not to make excuses. My belief is that Super rugby is a squad vs squad battle and this week I still think the Tahs are at least 50-50 to win the game. That is why we are the Tahs. Despite the adversity we are still very competitive and even the Crusaders admitted after the match last week that we were close. Pull 10 players out of the Brumbies starting 22 and see what you've got! This is the second straight season that we have had serious injury in the squad and I just long for the day when we are sitting around discussing who we have to drop this week, not who we have to bring into the 30 to patch a hole.

And my point Hawko is that.. there is no adversity (compared to the Brumbies) in the Tahs. They have an advantage with the amount of experience and caps. If anything the Brumbies are experiencing adversity this year, given that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), and Elsom and other key senior players left the squad.

Is there adversity in the Tahs with the amount of injuries? Yes. But compared to what the Brumbies had to go through (basically start from scratch with an entire new squad), and pretty much every other Super Team with injuries, ur so-called adversity is very limited.

For interest sake, here are the two sides from Round 18 last year.

Waratahs: Kurtley Beale, Lachie Turner, Ryan Cross, Tom Carter, Atieli Pakalani, Daniel Halangahu, Luke Burgess, Dave Dennis, Phil Waugh (captain), Dean Mumm, Sitaleki Timani, Pat O’Connor, Al Baxter, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Benn Robinson. Reserves: John Ulugia, Jeremy Tilse, Dan Vickerman, Chris Alcock, Hugh Perrett, Josh Holmes, Sosene Anesi.
Brumbies: Christian Lealiifano, Henry Speight, Tyrone Smith, Pat McCabe, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Matt Giteau (captain), Patrick Phibbs, Ita Vaea, Julian Salvi, Mitchell Chapman, Peter Kimlin, Ben Hand, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Jerry Yanuyanutawa. Reserves: Anthony Hegarty, Jono Owen, Henry Vanderglas, Tom Boidin, Josh Valentine, Andrew Smith, Robbie Coleman.

From that 22, the Tahs have 6 players in the starting XV and a total of 9 in the 22 this Saturday.
The Brumbies have 5 players in the starting XV and a total of 10 in the 22 this Saturday.
What does that tell us? Not much.

Just an observation, to me, it is no surprise that the most successful Aus S15 side so far has been least bashed about by injury

Serious question - would you say that this is the result of a good, extended pre-season conditioning program (with very few people missing out due to International representation), or is it more down to luck?

You would have to think that it is a bit of both.

The same holds true for most of the competition. The Chiefs have had a good run of injuries and are on top. The Crusaders started with lots of injuries but have been getting players back and are starting to go very well.

The Stormers have had a pretty good run although have had lots of one and two week injuries. Apart from Schalk Burger they have had most key players on deck.

The Bulls have also had a pretty good run.

Luck I reckon and squad back up, the Reds had it last season ,so far the Brumbies are enjoying a great run.

10 is their weakness now after Lealiifano, with To'omua gone, the cupboard is very very bare.
