Serious question - would you say that this is the result of a good, extended pre-season conditioning program (with very few people missing out due to International representation), or is it more down to luck?

I say luck, if you look at say the Reds and Tahs injuries you can't put them down to poor conditioning or heavy workload.

There is no doubt that having a good or bad run with injuries makes a huge difference - whether they are Wallabies or not, you need consistency of combinations to get the most from a team. When there are big numbers out, there is little consistency week to week. It shows. Look at the Reds with only a run of injured 10s!!
Fatprop's point is a very salient one.
No excuse - you have a squad to battle the season, and coping with adversity is part of it.
But there is no doubt some teams are having a better run than others. It cannot be ignored as a factor.
I think Hawko is just wondering when / if the Tahs will get a golden season with few in the sick bay. That may have a lot to do with preparation / rotation / S&C etc...so reflects on the coaching and management, and rightly so.

Luck I reckon and squad back up, the Reds had it last season ,so far the Brumbies are enjoying a great run.

10 is their weakness now after Lealiifano, with To'omua gone, the cupboard is very very bare.

Yep, that would be a season killer for us if Lilo got injured...

There's Zack Holmes, or Coleman...

Or in my opinion, a left field option that could work would be Nic White (who has played there) with Ian Prior into scrumhalf...

In the past the Brumbies have probably missed out on 3 finals series on the back of Larkham injuries alone...

They never had a decent backup, and the difference in the team when he was there and when he wasn't was pretty significant...

Lee, I always enjoy reading your posts, especially these ones about what's happening at training. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the competing teams read them. Have your thought of making up a fake game plan that Foley or Mumm 'told' you ;)

The Tahs players thmselves might read that plan and get confused...

As Slim said... Coleman is a very good 10... Holmes can play 10 also as could Nic White... Brumbies have more depth than people realise... and plenty of good young outside backs waiting for a shot....

It'd be a big ask though with their limited experience...

And if you look at Lilo's stats, both him (and Nic White) are up there for linebreak and try assists this year...

That's really the best thing about the Brumbies this year. Sure, Kimlin drops the ball and Mogg kicks it out quite a bit, but overall there is not a single bad player on the team. They are all at least above average, most of them rather good.

The real physical difference is fitness. The Brumbies are just so fit!

What exactly is this based on?

I always hear people talking about the Tahs lack of fitness

They sort of came back in the Reds game, played to the end in the Highlanders game, came back against the Sharks and Crusaders. I don't think they have a fitness problem at all, rather when they have a lead they take their foot off the pedal but they've shown a strong tendency to come back into the game when they've been behind this year.

When the Brumbies play, they never stop running and never stop pushing in the breakdown. When the hour has passed, they don't start making more mistakes. The biggest test of this was the Bulls game. Despite lapses in play which were based mostly on discipline, they were still working hard and not getting worse over time.

The Tahs might not be as fit as the Brumbies, they are in no way unfit.

I think that the Brumbies will note that the Tahs denied the gain line to the Crusaders in the first half last week by shooting out near the ruck area, and will get the ball wide a bit sooner than they would against another team.

This will be especially relevant because the Tahs shooter out wide, Rob Dog Horne, is not playing.

And one hopes that the Tahs noted the nice little run around that Leali'ifano confected against the Lions. It was a thing of beauty though made better by the wasteland of absent Lions defenders.

The Tahs outside backs had better connect better on defence in this game or they will be Mogged.

Mogg has to be one of the better fullback for picking his moments for chiming into the backline. It's rather Roff like.

As the guy who was picked up by Roff after the 2004 final and told he would be the best Rugby player, I dislike the comparison to Roff. :p

The wallabies were meant to have depth last year, we saw how that worked out.The brumbies are playing well as a unit, depth in Australian rugby however is a myth.

I note that we've gone in with an unchanged backline and only two back reserves. I wonder whether we'll try the in-game position switching we did last week, in my opinion it was rather unsuccessful.

I note from something I think Lee posted that Carter was not 100% but had fronted up to training on Monday as a first step to redeeming himself. I have a feeling wherever he defends this week that he'll be out to make a point.
