Brumbies 2025

In their place comes under 19s sensation Tevita Alatini - but he is sidelined for the bulk of the Super Rugby campaign after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Then there is Harry Vella..... His 2025 campaign is all but wiped out in a cruel blow for a promising prop who missed the 2023 season with another ACL rupture.

I thought Vella had done his knee
Yes both Vella and Alatini have done there knees, and will miss 2025 season. Only 4 fit and firing props, will need to sign some new players. Cabous Eloff would be an option, Sateki Latu (Warringah/Moana Pasifika), Bo Abra (Hunter), Phransis Sula-Siaosi (hospital cup/Reds), Remsy Lemisio (Northland), Suetena Asomua (Moana Pasifika), Mason Tupaea (Blues) could be some options? Not many Aussie props floating around overseas at the moment, will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Wagner looks like he got let go by the Force, I actually think he would do a job. Good scrummager and knows the Brums system. Handled Tupou as well as any Australian prop I've seen vs the Reds a couple of seasons ago, think he's had some injury problems since then though.

Yeah Wagner is an option, there’s a few ex force and reds props floating around in club rugby, like Abra, Wagner, Lloyd, Phransis. As well as some handy young props in Nz with Aussie background like Remsy Lemisio.

Tom Ross is another following his stint at the Tahs.

Abra, Wagner, Lloyd and Lemisio all have history with the Brums.

Surely this is where RA centralisation comes into play?? ;)

Starting to get into Waratahs '24 territory here unfortunately
That was my thought to - although at least in Slipper & Ala'alatoa they have quality. It is quantity that is the issue. Hopefully the lead team provides a good window to bring in some solid options.

more dire than that, the Tahs were pulling from the highest level of club football on earth. The blokes mentioned were merely fringe professionals (though Abra at least has played for Newcastle).

How has Lemisio fared in the NPC? He looked like he had the raw tools but needed a lot of work on his scrummaging before he left.

If something happens to Slipper & Ala'alatoa it becomes more dire. But while those two are fit at least you have two vastly experienced and capable props.

Also the Brumbies have time to bring a number of options into the squad and get them up to speed with systems. The Tahs were parachuting guys in with two days to prepare.

How's Sio contract. Let's get the big man home.

Sio would be an excellent gain, but failing that, maybe Harry Lloyd who looked like a consistent Super LHP in the making a few years ago, and perhaps Lemisio? Does he play TH?

Archer Holz went to Japan I recall. Sio locked up long term by Exeter recently. Lemisio has been playing tighthead for Northland for 2023, and 2024 seasons, got rookie forward of the year in 2023. I think NPC will be the place to look, many young promising props who just need some pro coaching and a pre-season behind them to do the job well. Many guys on the fringe for the Blues (like Lemisio) who would be handy pickups. Schoupp was a complete rookie when he came to Canberra, now he is a Wallaby, Van Nek had only played about 5 games for the Rebels before signing with the Brumbies too. Lots of talent around in Aus and Nz.

I am worried that Slipper & Ala'alatoa are about to fall off the cliff. Hoping AA poor form has been due to the achilles injury and recovery. Brumbies have tried a TH in Alec Lambert in two recent preseason games.

Not a chance Slipper plays more than 75% of the games the way he looks at the moment. Or he'll be broken by the end of the season if he can't have a few long bench stints. Big AA may be affected by the Achilles but I find it hard to he can get back to it. It's an old athletes injury and I can't imagine good for the big guys. He'll be able to play but what we see now is what he'll be till it's done.
