Good determination right at the end there from you guys, but you have to thank Mr Donald for not kicking the penalty and then right at the end missing touch. :(

FUCK YEH BOYS!!! I was this close to starting a Sack Deans thread, however.

Burgess and Barnes were fan-bloody-tastic when they came on. Smart, fast, decisive. Mitchell's try was amazing as well, hot damn that boy is fast.

It is pretty bloody clear that Giteau has to go. Can't kick, can't set up his outside men, is a ragdoll. Barnes looked like he has played a fair bit of rugby lately, he knows what to do.

With 10minutes I nearly tore my gleaming head of hair with the series of pooring kicking, one after the other - luckily we remembered that scoring trys means running the ball.

In conclusion, it's great to win against the All Blacks, like the good old times winning this game and the close one in Safferland. Well Done.

Great result and a huge confidence boost for a young up and coming side.

Kiwis weren't great tonight but instead of fading in the 2nd half our guys pulled out a hell of a comeback.

Areas of concern:
- absence of counter rucking. A problem when our attack is based on quick ruck ball. It was almost like we were under instruction not to counter ruck.
- poor defence. Need to improve line speed and simple one on one tackles.
- scrum. Its not that our props are getting smashed. Penalties for timing on the engagement robbed us of of quality ball in good field position and killed our momentum. McCalman needs to refine his technique off the back as well.

our boys are only going to get better with game time together and will be back to our destructive best at the end of the month. and will mccalman really be playing in our 1st choice games next year?

Wycliff. Palu.

Absolutely. His mongrel changes the pack. Sort him and four lock out and the improvement is immense.

WTF happended to Robinson tonight? That must habe been the worst I have seen him scrum in a test.

A few reflections of the night:

1. What a lousy crowd - will this game go back to Konkers again or will they try Japan next time?
2. Lineout was great- stealing/disrupting All Blacks Ball several times
3. Ongoing problems in scrum- Ref to blame/loose surface??
4. Cooper may dazzle in attack but to my mind he overplays his hand and he really needs to go to tackling school- at least 4 crucial misses!
5. Gee -who's Kurtley been doing sprint training with- I've previously seen him on the running track, but he was lightning tonight.

Some will say we were lucky to win, but ultimately our substitutions provided some extra whereas the AB's subs did not.

Great win. We finally get a close one.

On a side trivia note. Had an ocean view upgrade at coogee a few weeks ago and JOC (James O'Connor) was my neighbour. Nice to see him get the points 2night. You could see that youthful exuberance in his face. Just enjoying himself.

Anyways... WOO HOOOOO !!!

I'd like to see Palu in at 8 and McCalman to 6 at Elsom's expense. I suspect they'll prefer to use Palu as a bench impact player though.

Fingers crossed Douglas, Horwill or Vickerman et al come through for us next year. I don't know how much longer Sharpe can keep going.

Davies, despite his merits is a known poor defender.
Van Humphries is untried at this level and as needs to bide his time, what little he has left.
Barnes doesn't cover either position you discussed so I don't know what you'd do with him.

I know Deans has had his highs and lows in his coaching reign but you can't knock a bloke for using players that are known quantities and trying to build some consistently in selection.

We just nearly lost another Test match to an All Blacks side in the worst form they've had all year. Drew Mitchell got stood up by Kieran Reid that nearly cost us a try, but you'd pick him ahead of Rod Davies. Mark Chisholm, as usual, barely featured in the game except to let Ma'a Nonu straight through and drop an uncontested lineout ball in the last quarter. But you'd overlook the hardest working lock in Aus rugby, Van Humphries.

I do respect the need for consistency, but if you don't drop bad players in favour of better ones you can't improve a team.

Just watching some of the defensive errors of the Wallabies. The whole backline defence was static. Giteau did not lead the line forward at pace and take/pressure the ball carrier. Hence Nonu got the ball and was always on the front foot. When he came ot the contact area he was always at pace and the tacklers went high to stop his offload or went low and he did offload. When they went high he just brushed Cooper and Giteau time and again and it was up to Pocock and McCalman to cover enormous ground to cover again and again.

Notice the difference when Barnes came on. He led the line forward and put Nonu on the deck and when Nonu was cut AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) was already on top of Smith or his winger because of the line speed. This on top of his yet again poor kicking has to mean a bench spot for Giteau. I would say dropping to the mid week games for him but we know that this will just not happen.

As for the no counter rucking - counted three or four rucks where Chisholm stood at the back of the ruck with No Oz player committed and watched as Cowan picked up the ball and fed Carter. Why didhe just stand there? This is one reason why I don't rate Chisholm at test level. The other is that tonight we saw the first two successful mauls against the Wallabies this year. It is no coincidence that Mumm was not on the field when this happened. All year he and Sharpe have successfully destroyed all comers who have tried mauling against the Wallabies, by successfully infiltrating and pressuring the ball carrier. You saw this happen at the end of the second Maul but onbly after it had been advanced 20 metres.

You must have Quade in despite his poor defense. I know Toeva slipped but that was because Quade's pass got outside him. Australia cannot have Quade and Giteau on at the same time. We've all been saying it and tonight the point was proved.
On another note, McCalman goes too high. Fainga'a was actually better in defense when he replaced Moore. For pity's sake get rid of the Chis!

Nah fuck that did the kiwis thank Giteau for missing so many kicks in Sydney? I Doubt it & I bet not one Kiwi fan ever mentioned Giteau's kicking as the reason they snuck home.

Our boys were just as rusty if anything we played less rugby over the last 5 weeks, come on lads a wins a win we've had two years of whinging about the losses.

Enjoy the moment for our young team it's onwards & hopefully upwards.

Absolutely Mr Bee Gees, enjoy the moment but please do not swallow the Fox Sports bullshit and hysteria. A great game was played but there were some very serious defensive errors and continued poor selections. But I do agree there is a base to work from but there is real need to make some changes.
