Aussie Player Exodus

Being left out of this squad doesn’t mean he won’t play this year. I’ll say at least a third of this group drop out of it by the Bledisloe.

There’s also a chance reputations externally are having an influence. He would have done work on the Wallabies for a long time and know who they potentially didn’t rate.

Tuipulotu and Jack Dempsey won the URC and are heroes in Scotland:

Since they left Australia everything has been positive for them and on the other hand, everything has been negative for Wallabies and Waratahs

Well they are heroes around Glasgow at least. A bit like that Irish lock was a hero around Clovelly last year, along with all the other Randwick players. I’m not entirely sure that a couple of Aussie players winning the Scottish club comp is properly expressing the point you are trying to make.

Scotland spent $145m AUD last year. They have a much bigger budget than we do.

We will likely lose more players like these two off for money in the Scottish system (or like Hansen in the Irish one) in years to come

But the United Rugby Championship isn't a Scottish club comp. It's played by South African, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Italian. According some experts SA and Irish are on the top rugby nations nowadays and I remember how tough it was to play in South Africa for the best Aussie teams

Yeah “Exodus” not ‘ex players rubbing our nose in it’

your not talking about players who are leaving like Holloway or Hanigan it’s just pointing out overseas players playing well who aren’t eligible for us anyway.

Do I wish Dempsey was running around here? Yeah of course, he’d be in the Wallabies squad easily.

Didn't quite happen with Meafou... now the Rebels have folded the overseas restriction needs to stop. If one of these young guys has a strong season and deserve a call up, then this should happen otherwise Australia will be feeding Les Bleus.

Those calling for reducing or doing away with restrictions on overseas players need to bear the following in mind as it is not as simple as we may think:

1) Club v Country Contest (look at soccer as a possible outcome, often club take preference to country unless its a high profile event)
2) Time (The time to fly back, train and be coached with the national team)
3) Cost (The cost to fly back, train and be coached with the national team)
4) National representation (living abroad, with a connection or longevity in that country may open an easier appearance for a country closer to where they now live and apply their trade)
4) Future players of interest (possibly without making a name for themselves in super rugby for example, how many club players, schoolboys etc will be seen by scouts and offered contracts in the future)

A current "sugar"hit may not last long, and just like the socceroos we may have to start looking at calling up Welsh third division(soccer) players who once lived in Perth as a kid.

Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) will be released to the Roosters as soon as his Olympic Sevens commitment is over (and then likely to play a couple of games of NSW Cup to finish the year)

Angus Crichton has re-signed as well
