Could say a similar thing about Luke Reimer for the Brumbies though. If he gets a few pilfers or penalties it changes the game much more. Forces opposition to over commit at ruck time as well.

I personally think Durbridge is very predictable on how he hunts for his pilfers and the better teams will be ready to clean him out
For Tahs they’re then down a man in defense
Not taking anything away from him he’s a great player

If the opposition is sending at least one man to clean (often 2) then you aren't a man down in defence.

It's true - opposition will need to counter his pilfer skills - the flip side is he spends so much time hunting and waiting for the pilfer opportunity, that he is not tackling or counter rucking, which means other players need to do that work for him, and the knock-on effects are tangible.

It works when you are dominant and can play 7 man forwards rugby, but just like last year where NSW U19s tried to play 6 man forwards rugby (#7 and #6 were mostly absent), you get found out against stronger sides.

I think though this year, overall NSW U19s will be too strong, especially in the back line.

MRRU haven't officially wound up yet right?

Don't know who owns the Rebels IP but the U16 and U18 announcements aren't being done via the Rebel social media like the other franchises. It looks it's done via Rugby Victoria. Whether that means anything, I have no idea lol

Don’t really know what to make of these games tbh.

It’s not competitive but I guess coaches want to see your team not go down to their opposition but play your game?

There’s a player that just looks a class above even his team mates. Guys that always have time.

Rebels have a few decent prospects. The 8 is a big body who goes alright. 6 an athletic 6 and 14 looks nimble.

Haven't had a chance to see the U19s NSW Game - but that said, Sid Harvey is pure class. Watched him play many times for Easts Colts and he is cool as a cucumber - time seems to stand still when he has the ball.

IMO, we need a big dynamic #8 and a real grunt of a #6 to emerge from these games - I sense that is what we have been missing in U20s this year - they might even be out there, just not spotted yet.

Solid Waratahs u19 performance over Rebels 78-20.

Hard to make much of it all till they play QLD and Brumbies. Again, the outside backs, especially Grover and Palmer, were just way too quick and skilful. Absolutely electric.

Forwards just too fit for the Rebels who had some big bodies that just couldn’t cope with multi-phase play. O’Kane and Goddard really good up front. Second rowers Girle and Mangelsdorf, as well as Durbidge in 7, were busy all day.

That captain Doyle at number 8 just looks an absolute monster in size and all-round ability for this age group. The Academy boys say he ran a 4:39 Bronco time last week, which is freakish for a 6’6” and 110kg body. No wonder Dan McKellar wants to fast-track him.

Great direction overall from Fowler at 10 and Harvey at 15. What great rugby IQ and ability those two have. To think they both come from the same Narrabri age group teams! With Sharples due back next game, those three working with such three-quarter speed at their disposal will prove a huge difference for the games to come.

Good summary Bobby. Brumbies got over the Force 53-23 in the other game. Although not overly impressive, the Brumbies did enough to be there or thereabouts and the Force did some good things but just lost concentration in 10 minute blocks where the Brums would score 12-14 points each time.

By the way, if that 4:39 Bronco time is correct that is ridiculous. Richie McCaw was celebrated for once running a 4:50!

For the Brumbies, I thought Joe Dillon (N0 10) and Beau Morrison (No 8) were outstanding. The US Lock Ollie Aylmer, winger Silas Pilot, replacement Hooker Bailey Buesnel and No 13 Malakye Enasio were all very good. Coincidentally, after all the discussion on another thread recently about Al Baxter, an interesting player was Al's son Finn Baxter at LHP, just like his old man. Scored a bloody good try and was busy until replaced with about 15 to go.

Brumbies scored 10 tries to 3 but left a lot of points on the ground with poor goal kicking.

Dillon is a good 10. Very creative and plays what's in front of him every time. I have to admit I'm biased having watched him for a long time through School Rugby but he's always performed when not being the most highly touted like the Fowlers who also played well. He doesn't ooze athleticism which we seem to get caught up on at time but hes just a footy player.

What happened in the 16s between the Force and Brums. I know it's 1 point and bloody well done to the Force but these were once upon a time a given for the Brums.

Standouts in games today?

Hard to say for the Tahs v Rebels as it was so lopsided but the work rate of guys like Doyle and the pace out wide for NSW looked good to watch. 16s even harder when it's 104/0 but the more I think about it the more normal it sadly is. If a Syd or Bris 1st XV played a Vic one it'd probably be the same score.

Standouts in games today?

Doyle, the captain and 8 for NSW is a hard lad and Brendan Palmer on the wing was electric. Toughest choice for higher honors will be in the centres as there were a number of good players, including both Force boys. Silas Pilot was awesome on attack, super quick, tough and a big lad who really injects some urgency when he sniffs an opportunity, needs some work on his D though. Morrison had a big game but probably more a 6 than 8.
Tahs v Brumbies will be a good clash.

Agree it will be. So many having played against each other and with each other for a long time through Schools in Sydney.

Is there a link with Oakhill and the Brumbies? Four Oakhill boys in the Brums 16s. Usually less if any movement in the 16s between states for players.
