How's Shipperley under the high ball?

And it will be interesting to see how many times he gets passed the ball..
I'm expecting them to test Shippers early, as well as Beale, to see if any of those errors still remain in his game.

- Quite like the backline having regard to the injury situation
- Front row should be adequate if nothing more. Slipper is a bloke who should be starting. his work around the field is tremendous. But given that the scrum got a pass mark last week i have no problem with Deans opting for continuity with that combination.
- Interesting choice to Bench Higgers. Hopefully this motivates Higgers. He is one guy that seems to have improved each year at super level, i tend to think he'll continue to improve at test level.
- Harris is an odd choice for the side line. i see him as a specialist player (outstanding kick but nothing else). but could be good move tactically if it rains or the game is otherwise tight..

The players chosen arent my real worry. They are good players. What worries me is the fact that i expect these guys to go out there and play with no real direction or purpose. God Damn it Deans do your job.

Presumably the plan with this team is to play with some width and try to get runners into space. Hopefully they've had enough time to gel in the backs and can move the ball with purpose.

As for the forwards, this is a more balanced line up. They need to work much harder to realign and provided better first phase ball, otherwise this back line won't do much of anything.

Cummins doesn't score tries.even at super level. I have no problem with him coming into the training camp so the lads can pratice belting people in defence but it's imporatnt for the national teams chances that Cummins watches with the plebs from the grandstand

Playing in a very dysfunctional backline mind you. It must be a bit of a mental hurdle for Cummins that he has sat on the the periphery of the Wobs team for so long without getting a cap. Like many others on here, I think he deserves a crack before too long and probably as a center really.

Don't share the love for Cummins. As a winger, Shipperly is the better player with more upside. With the return of JOC (James O'Connor) and McCabe, supposedly after this week, I think he will drop from the squad.

Harris is cover for 10/12. I am guessing because robbie doesn't have much faith in Beale being able to do that job (probably has everything crossed he is able to do the fullback job!). AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) covers wing and fullback and faainga'a 13.

I would much rather morahan being bought into the squad to cover wing and fullback so AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) could stay at 13. I am hoping that Harris gets a run at 12, but Taps would have been a better option (guessing that Harris won out on kicking).

Cummins suits the Wobs game plan more, unless we are going to try to go around the Boks, against a rush defence, which is unlikely.

Ships is a good player, but the Wobs don't use their wingers on the outside - which is his strength.

The team selected should be good enough to get the job done. It isn't perfect, but it is the best side we have put on the field this year, but in all, this team is a giant step forward in the right direction. As long as the forwards gain parity, the backs should be able to run in enough tries for us to win.
It all comes down to Deans' tactics and use of the bench. If he picks this team and persists with a defensive/conservative approach and uses the bench poorly, then I feel it could be a long night. If he lets Genia, Cooper, Ioane and Beale loose and lets them play their natural game, with Barnes not kicking the skin off the ball, then there is no reason why the Wallabies cant score 30 points.

Harris is cover for the ball playing positions of 10 and 12, also because he is the best goal kicker in the country. And if I was coach he'd be cover for 15 if beale is injured or having another Barry Crocker, rather then moving AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) from 13 and putting Faingia on. I too feel for Cummins and wonder what more he has to do to get a crack, It almost makes you want to cry when you think about some of the players who have had their first Wallabies jerseys gifted to them.

The suggestion of Tapuai instead of Harris would be making the same mistake they made selecting Mitchell (and Beale to a lesser extent) of picking a player who is coming back from injury, a little under done, under prepared (in the team environment). The whole lack of match time is less about fitness and more about, decision making in a game, timing and mental confidence in your body and your ability.

I only have on contribution to make to the discussion of Game One between RSA and AUS this week in Perth.

Shipperly.

That is all ...

Harris is not a 15, his aerial ball skills are not at test level... Harris is also not a international standard 10.. Harris has one position he can fill at test level and that's a crash ball 12 who has passing skills.

Tapuai has been back fit and playing rugby for months now, he cannot be compared to Mitchell whose injuries and time out injured from the game were both different.

Maybe it was because Harris has been in the squad the whole time, unlike Taps who was ommited from the original 30man squad.

Mitchell and Beale were rushed into the starting side. We are only asking for Taps to be on the bench. He is a potential long term wallaby, where as I doubt Harris is. But like I said, his kicking probably gave him the nod, and indicates that Robbie might look to replace Barnes if he struggles again.

Agree Scotty - Both were rushed back. Mitchell may be finished (such a shame). Beale should have to get his fitness and mojo back in grade.
Taps is a great long term prospect. Remember Taps at schools level and still believe he is a viable alternative at 10
