Nothing. The reason he's not in the training squad is because he's at the Comm Games...

Definitely surprised by BKH's inclusion.

Deans should maybe make the effort to check out the Shute Shield sometime because I'm certain he could've pulled some players out of Canberra who are much better.

Ah he does, he was at all the finals matches and a few of the last round matches.

Can anybody work out who started in the Super14 this year and has been mentioned as a likely tourist but missed out on the 40 and not listed as injured?

Cross, Cummins, Waugh, Mowen, Baxter, Fairbrother, Weeks, G.Holmes, Sheehan, Valentine ...

Cummins is off with Turner on the 7s program.

Others (including your lot) Al Baxter, Ben Mowen, Brendan McKibbon, Brett Sheehan, Christian Lealiifano, Damien Fitzpatrick, Dan Palmer, Greg Holmes, Josh Valentine, Laurie Weeks, Leroy Houston, Luke Rooney, Mitchell Inman, Nicholas Phibbs, Pat McCutcheon, Patrick Phibbs, Phil Waugh, Ryan Cross, Tim Fairbrother and Tom Carter.

I hope To'omua gets some time on the field at 10. We're not exactly oversupplied with flyhalves.

Also - whatever your personal opinion, Baxter was the first choice tight head in the aggregate G&GR team at the start of the year, and now he can't get a look in. Seems like Bryce Lawrence has ended his career with the collaboration of Robbie Deans.

With Cooper only signing on for one year and the odd possibility he might defect to the mungo game... To'omua is the future...

I'm sure he'll feature heavily in the midweek games... and hopefully not break something in the opening minutes...

Not too many surprises then. Fitzpatrick has never started in a Super14 game so he was long odds to tour after Charles played well for the Force when he got a chance - and for Uni. McKibbin was at long odds also since he didn't get on the park this year from the academy. Phipps would have been a real bolter.

Deans seems to have this thing for Kingi doesn't he? Agree with taking a young bloke as 3rd string though, rather than one of the usual suspects though I'd call over a replacement if the one of the other two got hurt.

I think this is a reasonable squad and one that is looking to build on last years EOYT with a few notable un-capped faces back in the squad. Again, a number of big names still out injured - it is going to be great when they, plus everyone else new this year are available for selection for next years tests. Robbie is building quite a big squad for 2011. I really hope Turner comes into the squad because I think he proved with that single match against the All Blacks that he is going to be an asset to the team.

I honestly cannot wait to see Kurtley continue his form and stamp his domination on the no. 15 jumper.
I also think Quade is going to cause so much trouble for opposing teams who haven't had to deal with him before at flyhalf.
And Higginbotham - step up mate, we all want you to.

I think its almost a foregone conclusion that Cooper will go next year after the RWC. Giteau as well (not that I ever want to see him at 10 again) and a fair chance Barnes will also go. So the 10 stocks are looking very poor again after the RWC if that happens and To'omua will be in the box seat. Is Ripia elligible for Oz?

I thought Toby Browne did well for Randwick this year in his first year at 1st grade level. Needs some serious training though at the next level to get any real idea. I do not like KB (Kurtley Beale) at 10, his play at 10 is still erratic and I'd rather him running from 15.

It is a good squad. It is now up to all these blokes who have been given a chance to put in on the training paddock, take the opportunity and earn the right to travel.

Are there any overseas (UK/Eire/France) based Aussies who could make the squad if they were playing domestically?

In the olden days, locally based expats have been used by touring teams to fill slots caused by injuries in the touring squad. Cricket has frequently had Aussie club players on a NH playing holiday fill in as 12th man, and substitute fielder.

I don't think we've been losing players (top players at least) to OS as much as the past.

You'd make a case for a fit Dan Heenan or Hugh McMeniman above the likes of O'Connor and Humphries, but is there such a thing as a 'fit Heenan or McMeniman'? Not sure of anyone else to be honest.

Back to this squad, can't understand why Mitchell Inman isn't there. We aint gushing with outside centres.

I thoguht Inman was a good chance to be in there. Apart from AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) I don't know who's got it over him - he definitely seems to have a lot of potential

DPK

Peter Sullivan (51)
Inmans pretty huge already, but if he has another good season on and off the field (training/gym wise) he could be the Morty replacement we are looking for. By which I mean a brick-shithouse-esque midfielder.

Don't forget Craig Joubert's input. I certainly won't.

just worked out the average age of that squad is 23.8

Handy for potential. A few more 'experienced' heads will be worthwhile come RWC though.

At 23.8 now, the average Gold Man will still be good for RWC 2015.

2 more Bills for the St Leonards Trophy Cabinet.

Yeah likewise I think Kurtley is going to carve up we all saw how much trouble he gave the AB's & Boks he is really starting to deliver on his potential.

Agreed, I thought he would definitely be there once Horne & Chambers were ruled out very disappointed not to see him selected.

Re:- Inman can he play wing, IC or fullback? I don't think so. He appears to be a specialist 13 to me.

Have a look at those selected as backs in the squad, all those who have played for the Wallabies are shall we call it multi-skilled (instead of utilities).

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), (he hasn't played 10 or 9), Hynes (Wing, 13 and 15) JOC (James O'Connor) (Wing, 15, 13, 12) Beale (10, Wing, 15) Giteau (10, 12) Barnes (10, 12), Ioane (Wing, 13), Shepherd (Hasn't played but got selected before injury Wing and 15) Horne (13 and 12) Cooper (10 and 12 though I would say he is a specialist 10).

Turner (Wing) only got selected when there was nobody left.

The only real specialists in the Oz backline are Genia and Burgess.
