If you can keep them on the park, that is one seriously good and well balanced forward pack.
  2. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2013

Does anyone have a transcript of the chat? Couldn't get to it as was busy in the office. Its also entirely possible that they've intended to go with a succession plan that will see Pyle as captain this year; especially if they didn't expect Delve to stay for the extra year.

    Rebels 2013

If I remember correctly, no-one wanted Radike Samo three years ago either. Sometimes players slip through the cracks or just need to find the right organisation. Edit: Or perhaps more relevantly, Mike Harris.

    Western Force 2013

I believe you have missed Angus Cottrell as a flank, unless I have missed something.
  5. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2013

    I would suspect Angus Roberts.
  6. James Buchanan

    Waratahs 2013

Same logic applies. Front rowers in general are very smart people, from my experience.

    Rebels 2013

With the cattle we have at the moment, I'd play that over forcing in a second string fetcher.

    Rebels 2013

When you find the magic front-rower tree, be sure to let the Rebels know. Getting a serious international front-rower is unlikely also. In Europe (especially France), they are often the top paid blokes on a team. What I am saying is, ironically, it is what it is. There is no magic wand that...

    Rebels 2013

Oh please. The Rebels have hardly been ignoring the front row to focus on other things. In fact, they have recruited the single best prospect front rower (Alo-Emile) that has come through Junior ranks recently. Unfortunately, Australian Rugby is not a production line for top rate front rowers so...

    S15 - Rebels V Reds

Beale at 10, JOC (James O'Connor) at 15 I think is the sensible answer. JOC (James O'Connor) then gets to play the role that everyone has Beale doing for the Wallabies. Playing mostly counterattack and injecting individual brilliance as needed, and coming in as 1st or 2nd receiver as required.
  11. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2013

He has also sought early release from his contract to go play in france ASAP. So, it has to be explained why he is no longer playing after this game.

Rebels Team: STARTING TEAM: 1. Nic Henderson, 2. Adam Freier, 3. Jono Owen, 4. Cadeyrn Neville, 5. Hugh Pyle (VC), 6. Tom Chamberlain, 7. Hugh Perrett, 8. Gareth Delve (VC), 9. Nick Phipps, 10. James O'Connor, 11. Cooper Vuna, 12. Stirling Mortlock (C), 13. Mitch Inman, 14. Mark Gerrard, 15...

    Rebels 2013

I suspect the Rebels have already been looking for a few new faces. Not much of this is unexpected. They recruited the old dogs to attempt to build the culture until they had younger kids with maturity. 2 years is what I expected from most of them. What is positive is what is mentioned in that...

It matters for player retention. If people feel like they are stuck behind someone, they are more likely to move on. That perception comes from a 'best 15' scenario.
  15. James Buchanan

    Delve and the Quota

Yep, that would have been before the IRB changed the qualification criteria.
  16. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2013

I would discard Chamberlain from 'best 15' consideration. He has had a couple of good games and a few shockers. I do not think he can realistically compete with either Jones or Saffy. Neville has admittedly had only a couple of good games but significantly that amounts for every game he has...

Biggsy, is there a tale about how you lost your other eye?
  18. James Buchanan

    Rebels 2013

AFAIK Byrnes is gone to Europe. Contract not renewed I think. Unless Neville gets the second year sads, going on form this year I think he'll probably be one of our best two locks with Pyle. Jones has also been impressive. If I were Saffy, I'd be a tad worried about my starting position...

    Delve re-signs for season 2013

Possibly, or he could move back into the second row. Although Neville has staked his claim fairly strongly in that area. I'm not sure Saffy at 7 gives us anything more than Jones and Higgers on the flanks though. Well, we should. 1-3 is the most important part of any team :D Hookers in...

    S15 - Rebels V Reds

I'd be happy enough with that Team. Alternatively, Mortlock at 12 would be a fine option for my mind. He added a lot of starch in the games which he played last year and 12 would suit his reduced speed.
