    Growing QLD Schoolboy Rugby

So this a Cup competition as opposed to a regular organised season? How many games will be played in the pool stages? Three or 6 (I'm assuming it's 4 pools of 4 in each division). Certainly an interesting format.

    This is interesting.

One of the strengths of G&GR is you can have a spirited debate but never resort to making it personal.

    Rugby post 2019

The June test window will become the July test window and likely begin a 'Test' season. As for shifting schedules. I think there may be some merit in moving the NRC further back as a means of getting it out from under the NRL and AFL finals series. The nature of the NRC being essentially a...

    This is interesting.

I don't know about TOCC but in terns of best case scenario for Rugby in Australia, I would say being able to offer access to multiple viewing platforms across different media. Personally unless something fundamentally shifts in our broadcasting landscape in terms of access to FTA then we need...

Moving the June Test window back to July to allow Super Rugby to run uninterrupted.

    SANZAAR Fan Survey

If they went down that path I'd prefer each conference to have it's own finals series. If its 24 teams then everyone plays each other once and then a 6 team finals series. Winner of each conference play each other with the final being rotated year on year. All up 16 weeks.
  7. WorkingClassRugger

    This is interesting.

We also have to take into account that if SANZAAR elected to explore streaming as a broadcast option that unlike the NRL, AFL and even A-League it won't just be geared toward domestic comsumption. While our market may be smaller here Super Rugby being regarded as a premium product within the...

    This is interesting.

The NFL, NBA, MLB and UFC all currently do it. All are seeing year on year growth. These are your early adopters. They have all been looking to diversify their offerings to match market demand. They have stuck with traditional platforms purely because broadcasters are paying overs for rights in...

    This is interesting.

It appears they have contracted the streaming production company. Would still be more cost effective than setting it up themselves. They'll be charging a monthly subscription fee.
  10. WorkingClassRugger

    This is interesting.

They are a number of internationally based production companies that are capable of providing the necessary expertise to present an independently produced professional offering. It would more be a matter of contracting them. The NBL is launching something very similar to their on NFL Game Pass...

    NRC onwards and upwards

I do. But that doesn't mean it isn't necessarily representative of how those critical of the competition think. And that's a problem. In terms of capturing the woder community's interest this has a greater chance than using existing club structures.

    Ideas for NRC

A thought I had last night. With the success of 7s at the Olymoics perhaps that could be an interesting option for the NRC teams. They could work with local clubs to set up 7s competitons within the catchments and use these as a means of reaching out to potential fans. Present offers for...

    NRC onwards and upwards

The attitude of 'it's not how I think it should be so I'm going to bash it at every turn' is quite frankly petty and pathetic. I seriously question how much of a Rugby fan someone who actively participates in this behaviour truly is. Take what you will from my comment.
  14. WorkingClassRugger

    This is interesting.

Agreed. The only difference is internationally our market is probably larger that may make it more feasible. But even if it's a platform offering access that would be a move in the right direction.

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

I agree that we a strong domestic product in the form of the NRC. What we also need is some clear (well, relative to our current slot) air for it to be seen. Honestly the quality of the NRC is too good for it to be swamped by NRL and AFL finals. Unlike you I actually see its relatively short...

    Waratahs 2017

I remember the commentators saying that Fitzpatrick was committed to the Tahs. Don't know how accurate the statement is. Wells is signed by the Tahs isn't he? Another that would be worth a look in is Sam Ward from NSW Country.

    This is interesting.

Are you sure about that? Look up the likes of the NFL Game Pass. If you do it on the cheap then yes, it's problematic but if done right it could ge well worth it. Additionally, you can ensure its chromecast enabled ($59), Xbox and Playstation compatible.

    This is interesting.

One wonders that if Amazon's move into sports broadcasting may prompt Netflix to get involved in some way. While they have previously stated that they were not interested at present they also didn't rule it out in the future. But I'm with you on the season pass. I'd be happy enough to pay $1...

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

I'm not disputing that SOO isn't a huge event on the Australian sporting calendar nor did I say the decline was steep. But the total numbers (one game doesn't make a series) are down. Teams in the finals drawing crowds is hardly surprising and I'd like to see the numbers in regard to the fall...

    NRC onwards and upwards

Well we could get a possible preview of what that could look like this weekend. The Rays will be hosting the Eagles ar Pittwater. Hopefully they can draw in a good crowd as going from early form it should be an absolute barnburner. Certainly an early contender for 'match of the round'.
