    Brumbies Vs Chiefs

One observation- the Brumbies kick off receipts/exits were pretty ordinary. I only mention that because I see that as one of those things that can be easily be turned around in a week. Add that to the fact that is only week two and the Brumbies have plenty of improvement in them yet. Great...

    Reds 2019

Not sure how Hanigan’s selection credentials are relevant to this thread, but I’ll bite. You and I are watching two different Hanigans. Line out ability - fine. But in what way is his breakdown work improving? He remains both inaccurate & ineffective. I don’t expect Scott-Young to feature in...

    Brumbies Vs Chiefs

Nice, heads up rugby by the Brumbies. Simple things done well. Great to see.

    Brumbies Vs Chiefs

Well taken try. Brumbies looking very good. Well - except for their kick off receipts.

    Brumbies Vs Chiefs

Great ball Joe Powell. Put it in front of the man hitting the hole.

    Round 2 - Sunwolves vs Waratahs @ 3.15pm AEDST

I get what you’re saying - but the attempt was rushed. Should have gone for another phase or two at least to hold the defence, even if they didn’t push for the try/penalty. At least that’s what I would have done from my armchair.

    Round 2 - Sunwolves vs Waratahs @ 3.15pm AEDST

Gee, don’t mind Parker having a crack to win it, but I reckon he should have given his forwards a bit more time. They weren’t having problems making inroads.

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

He was outstanding. But, even better, he was absolutely filthy after fulltime when they botched their last line out. Strong performance from him in just normal circumstances, let alone coming off such a tough week.

    R3 - Reds vs. Crusaders - Suncorp

Apparently there are still 5 or 6 games to go in round 2. But, honestly, WGAF. Let’s get on to talking about the next game that counts. Tough one for the Reds. Last nights display was heartening - but gutsy losses are very overrated, and heading to Sydney in two weeks at 0-2 won’t be a great...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

Yeah - I think it was a case of the passer picking the right man to hit.

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

I don’t think Reg was aiming for subtle. I would prefer we keep kicking, but execute much better. Great teams, including teams with excellent running games, have strong kicking (and chasing) games. It appeared to be a tactic - and it was actually good initially. Even as the game wore on it was...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

The Reds dodged a bullet on the knock down by Petaia not being a card & the last pass to Sorovi could have had more scrutiny too. Personally I am happy for them to leave it to the refs Call and save the video ref for ‘on the line’ decisions and/or serious foul play. My bigger concern what is...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

To be fair to Petaia’s defence, on the last one he was on a hiding to nothing. He shot out of the line in the hope that he would hit the guy at the same time he caught the ball and shut it down but the ball got past him. When I saw it the first time I thought it was an error, but I don’t know...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

For me, the most pleasing thing was the performance of Sorovi & Stewart + Fotuaika & Hoopert. My biggest question marks were around our halves and our depth at prop. On the evidence of last nights game those boxes are ticked. Kerevi & Petaia both did well.

Gee Highlanders attack with a lot of guys in front of the ball

Too early to call try of the year?

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

It is a good game. I’m a bit worried the Reds will run out of steam, and there defence line is still getting messy once a first up tackle is missed, but there is plenty to like about what they are doing and the attack is anything but dour. Hopefully we won’t kick anymore ball to Ben Smith.

    Waratahs 2019

With regards to Hunt, the issues are that he keeps his nose clean (including his influence on other squad members) and that his body stands up to the rigours of rugby. If he stands up on these two fronts he is an outstanding buy. Edit: especially at the discount that the Tahs paid for him.

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

happy to see Petaia at 13. It’ll test him, no doubt - but he looks a natural fit there for me and to have good skills to position his winger on top of his excellent defence. He is still so young, so I’ll temper my expectations but I have been very impressed to date. The ommission of Higgers...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

My only thing with the ‘playmaker vs runner’ is Paia’aua is a good runner of the ball as well. He is a different ball runner than CFS with better agility, but I don’t see that as a negative part of his game personally. Having said that, I suspect you will be right in your selections.
