    Reds 2019

I think he could be a real star in the Reds. I thought he was close to our best last year, maybe only behind Rodda. I’m happy with the progress of Angus Scott-Young, but I’m still surprised with the lack of time for Timu so far.

Yeah - I didn't include Cooper, Slipper or Hunt. They are all easier to include as they have past squad experience. But I agree many would see them as fitting the description of a smokie. I expect both Cooper & Slipper to make it on current form and Hunt is in with a genuine shot too.

So, after 5 rounds, who are the smokies putting their hand up with a genuine shot at getting a gig. Realistically, there isn't going to be wholesale changes and it probably requires barnstorming form to get a gig in a World Cup year. For example, not sure Philip will get a crack when Coleman...

I like Salakaia-Loto, by but I’ve been very impressed with Hockings & also ASY (Angus Scott-Young). I would be inclined to start Rodda & Hockings in the row next week and bring LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) off the bench.

That’s terrible. Poor bugger. Really hard how some guys can’t catch a break with injury.

Credit where it is due mate - you did nail it. Would you happen to know the lotto numbers?

Haha - unfortunately Dasduke i think we are all going to continue to need some therapy for some time yet. Sometimes there is just not enough alcohol at arms reach.

Yeah. Agreed. To be honest it was just a bit of a bored comment. I don’t have any concerns around those two.

Interesting that both Hunt & Petaia - two very strong defenders (albeit very different styles) are in the lowest teams. Although I understand Hunt - he often runs up and tries for a dominant tackle with variable results (although even when he misses he often puts the attacker off his line). The...

Round 4 - Festival of Hate - Qld v NSW

For all those who struggle with Fox commentary, I pray you never have to listen to ABC radio coverage (whom I very much like for the cricket), like I did last night. The quality of the game made it tough to start with, but you also had to deal with listening to Ross Reynolds who, on air at...

Round 4 - Festival of Hate - Qld v NSW

Interesting. I would interpret his play completely differently. Not that I disagree he plays ad lib at times, but I would have said almost the exact opposite in terms of whether he is a game manager. To me, a feature of Coopers game is how he sits in the pocket directing his forwards around and...

IIRC I think the main problem was he struggled with his throws. As Slim said, he was almost a different player by the end of the series. Confidence dropped right off.

Maybe even drop the ball deliberately and take the scrum. Has to be a better option than just hoisting it midfield to Folau.

Slim - happy for you to correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he get called for a bunch of crooked throws in his Wallaby games? Look - I like the bloke. He is my preferred starter. And I am not saying he is consistently bad (nor is BPA). But both have room for improvement, IMO. Now, if I a have...

Surely the most obvious solution is to move Kerevi back. It might not be ideal but it doesn’t help anyone to play DP completely out of position.

Yeah - and BPA has been very good at times too. TPN seemed to have fixed his issues, then struggled again last year. Apart from Latu they’ve all been good at times, but all had issues from time to time too and it’s not always just the line out jumpers/structure.

Yeah, accepted Slim - but the opposite is true too and the comments were specifically around the selection of the Hooker. It is a bit bewildering that it is such a consistent problem across all of the contenders.

Understand what you are saying UTG, but he reality is that all of our hooking options have had some degree of issue with their throwing. I would still have Fainga'a in front, but if one of the options can nail that brief than he becomes first pick to me (out of the options above).
