Nice article. Sad to hear about the diagnosis of Doddie Wier though. That is the first time I've heard that.

I dunno. Fainga'a's throwing struggles at times too. Whoever is nailing their throws will get the gig I'm guessing, because it has been a real issue. I wouldn't count Latu out. Cheika is obviously willing to roll the dice with certain players. Also, it may depend on how Taf & Ulese's bodies...

    Reds 2019

I thought he was our best back in both the trials. I can see the appeal in leaving Kerevi at 12 and I agree DP struggled to make an impression on Saturday night, but given how the overall game went i recon they could do worse then name him at 12.

    R3 - Reds vs. Crusaders - Suncorp

Tupou was generally excellent in scrums last year and was able to be dominant against some very well credentialled opposition. However he is still young and will still get found out by skilful opponents at times and he was against a very experienced guy last night. I did think he was unlucky...

Round 4 - Festival of Hate - Qld v NSW

Big game for both sides. NSW under fire for being below par, while Qld seem to be earning a few more kudos but are 0-2 regardless. A real contrast of styles too. The Reds will try and win through bludgeon the NSW pack into submission and defending their hearts out. NSW will try and run Qld off...

    R3 - Reds vs. Crusaders - Suncorp

My take - The Good - I expected the Crusaders to win by more so. Form said they should win everyday, and they did. So while I don’t like being 0-2, glad this game is out of the way - Given the possession stats, I thought conceding 22 is reasonable. Many teams would have conceded more - a few...

    R3 - Reds vs. Crusaders - Suncorp

I thought it as more a case of Kerevi putting himself in the slot and demanding the ball. There were a few times there that he took the ball at first receiver trying to take the team forward. It’s not a tactic that’s sustainable, but I thought it showed the kind of leadership that I’d like to...

    R3 - Reds vs. Crusaders - Suncorp

Fuck - fair enough penalty. Silly play by Smith. But Moody & Franks do that all game every game and with no regards for players safety and it gets let go week in week out.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

My recollection of when Hanigan was picked he was literally the last man standing. Everyone else was either injured or had gone OS. And, from memory, he did come of a decent super rugby season, although he had tailed off a bit towards the end. Now, on the one hand that just further proved the...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

All true. Really all of this is highly premature. At the most, players have played 2 games. But it’s an Internet forum on rugby. It’s only a problem when people take it all too seriously and, even then, it is only really a problem for them.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

Mostly I like it. I don’t think McCaffrey will make it though. I am also not sure Phipps will miss, assuming he gets fit soon. And I am almost certain Foley will be there. Of course, there is a lot of water to go under the bridge with form, fitness & injury but I do generally like your squad.

    Brumbies 2019

Slipper was awesome a couple of years ago. If I recall correctly he was GAGR player of the year one year (surely the Gold Standard of player recognition). Then he got an injury. Then he got another one. He’s never been the same. I can’t help but wonder if the break last year has given him the...

Super Rugby 2019 Predictions - Aussie Conference

Yeah - one thing the Brumbies showed on the weeekend is that a week is a long time in football. It was nice to see a couple of decent performances though.

    Waratahs 2019

I dunno. That’s a bit tough IMO. They keep a points table for a reason and the Tahs topped the Aussie conference so, by virtue of that, deserved their spot.

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

Haha - I couldn’t resist. But I’m going back in to my shell now. Crusaders are still the benchmark and it will be a very tough assignment for the Reds.

    Reds 2019

He tries hard, and he gets to enough breakdowns that he is occasionally going to get it right. But he is largely ineffective at the breakdown IMO, missing clean outs, not being able to shift people or stay strong over the ball enough. Anyway - if you disagree, fair enough. I hope he comes...

Round 2 - Reds vs Highlanders at Forsyth Barr

I’m surprised you don’t think the Brumbies to be able to beat the Hurricanes next weekend after their showing last night.

    Waratahs 2019

Largely fair - but your backline did get you into the finals last year

    Waratahs 2019

Except that Hunt can both defend and attack from 12, Beale can perform the same role he does now from 15 (which he does half the time anyway) and that some of the best games Hunt has had since he came over to Rugby was when he played 12 for the Wallabies before he got injured again.
