    Wallabies 2019 Thread

But BH, the thing is that the majority of us aren’t against them being picked because they are Waratahs. We are against them being picked because they aren’t the best player in their spot. I don’t deny there is a whole dialogue posted by many on here that they are being picked because they are...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

Haha - yes, there really is nothing like that early season optimism before a ball in test rugby has been kicked in anger. This year will be our year - all those new guys are going to come in and be so much better than those losers they replaced. And, if not, well it’s all Cheika’s fault.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I dunno - from my recollection last year there was plenty of support for guys like Naiyaravoro, both Gordon & Phipps, Robertson, Rona, Latu, and even some calls for guys like Cam Clarke, Fitzpatrick & Wells from memory. That’s on top of Kepu, Hooper, Simmons, Foley, Beale, Dempsey, Hanigan &...

Unfortunately for him I just think the boat has sailed for Carter. He is very similar to Simmons and it is quite conceivable that he could have been the one with 80 odd test caps and Simmons could have been the one with a dozen or so. Just not the way it planned out. He’s probably been a bit...

Why burden him with responsibility. Just try and make sure he remembers to clearly use his arms when he tries to belt people TF into next week. That’s as much responsibility as I want them to give Thor.

I thought players who were not either Wallabies eligible or able to become eligible couldn’t be signed anymore.

I assume this is a bit of a tongue in cheek argument, but surely we want these young’s blokes to have a bit of collective ownership/us against the world mentality. I’m not sure I want that to be led by 1 or 2 strong personalities.

LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) may or may not be the best person to start at 6, but the decision shouldn’t be based on how he played last year. He is a leaner, more mobile, more agile player this year. Possibly not as much of a straight up bruiser, but still physical enough got make an impact.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

It’s not a myth at all. If Phipps pass was strong he’d be our clear Number 1 half. That doesn’t mean every pass is sub standard or he can’t go through games where he passes well. But he has consistently across his career has an issue with the reliability of his pass and, as a half, it is his...

Would any Australian team really be keen to go down this road again? If anything I thought the Tahs may in desperation to fill a spot, but I reckon even they would only go there if there is a complete lack Of other options.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

If Cheika leaves Powell out of the squad altogether it will make a mockery of any sense of picking the squad on form. Incumbents often get a degree of latitude, and personally I have no problem with that, but Genia has been very lethargic and neither Phipps nor Gordon have done enough, either...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

To be fair BR - this was a race in 3 and the comparison I assume FP is making is with Cooper. Cooper has had every chance to push for a recall/squad spot. Early in the season he was doing plenty right, in attack at least. As the season moved on, not so much. Foley hasn’t shot the lights out but...

I did miss Petaia. If he is fit, I reckon Cheika will punt on him, especially given the patchy form of some of the wing/fullback options.

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I think the two variables are what level of rotation Cheika uses over the RC and how many newbies, if any, he runs with. Regardless of last results, I find it very unlikely that Cheika is going to give consideration to more than 3-4 new players and/or go for large scale upgrades in the...

    Brumbies 2020

???? Based on the comments in the Reds thread Blythe is very highly rated by fans. The issue is more how long they can retain all of Rodda, Hockings, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) & Blythe. To some degree it gets alleviated by LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) playing in the backrow, but then you get a log jam developing of LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), ASY (Angus Scott-Young), Wright...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

Samu has been excellent week in, week out. Ultimately I think his versatility will count against him and he’ll come off the bench, but he would comfortably be in the top 3-5 Australian backrowers IMO and, for me, he and Hooper in the backrow isn’t as unbalanced as Pocock & Hooper. There are a...
