    The Wallabies Thread

Nice post Gnostic. I agree with most. However I would just like to make an important point. You asked me to compare the running metre's of Holloway and Hooper. Unfortunately their is only super xv stats available because Holloway has never played an international game. The point is, we...

But the Pooper is exactly that (plus more). One on-the-ball fetcher and one ball runner. Hooper is a great ball runner, I doubt Holloway would be that much better. The big plus with Holloway over Hooper is really only the line-out and his height. Maybe a slight advantage at scrum time too...

Anyone who isn't including Hooper and Poey in their starting XV is crazy. BOTH were nominated as IRB player of the year, both are proven to be one of the worlds best players at international level, the combination has proven to be successful. Why change? They should both be treated like Nonu...

I hope Tomane can get his fitness back, it would be nice to have another danger man in the back-line other then Folau.

I'd bet my house this will be the starting line-up. Unless more injuries occur. We may see some changes once the reserves come on, possibly hunt, Kerevi etc. which may dictate changes come the Rugby Championship depending on the success and/or failure. But for me, its pretty easy to...

I have faith in Cheika. If he chooses not to pick him it will be for good reason. After all, McCalman and McMahon are respectable alternatives. I would certainly like to see him in the extended squad this year. But I bet my house if he doesn't make it and backs up his great super xv season...

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

QC (Quade Cooper) can't play Aussie sevens in the Olympics? What was the point on him attempting to be part of the team then? He is surely eligible.

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

More Aussies watching seven's could lead to more Aussie's watching the fifteen man game. It's not a direct positive for Aussie rugby but it certainly could be a flow on effect.

    Brumbies 2016

I agree with @roffschoice... At this stage it's ours to lose. We have a good run home. Although I have to admit we seem to always start strong early in the season and decline near the end. I hope we have changed our ways.

    Waratahs 2016

He is different. For example; Cooper and JOC (James O'Connor) are still struggling with form where Beale is not. ;)

Yeah I don't think the issue was that their was no "standout 8". It was a more positive issue. Hooper and Poey were too good not to be in the starting team. Nothing has changed in that regard. However, they aren't going to be around forever, and the fact they are both 7's doesn't provide a lot...

    Waratahs 2016

Good work KB (Kurtley Beale). He has been a solid performer the last year or so (probably more) and has proven many doubters he is up to it (including myself - I was a huge anti-Beale advocate). A huge deal i think everyone would agree would take themselves. After his RWC performance I say he deserves it...

Hardness in the tackle? Yes. Breakdown workrate? No. That is one area in the backrow the number 8 can be lenient on since we have either of Poey, Fardy and Hooper in the other positions. The most likely combo who be Poey as 7 and Fardy at 6 and they have naturally high breakdown work so our 8...

George Smith - England's Best Player

Cheer up louie, we can let him begin his coaching career in England where he can make mistakes (as most beginners do) so he can come back to Aus sharp and experienced!

Except Douglas was the starter. He's injured so a new lock has to start. Carter was part of the set-up but only scrapped through, Arnold has also been part of the set-up with Cheika as coach. It could go either way IMO, a starting lock spot will be up for grabs by anyone. I agree the core of...

    Brumbies 2017

I'm happy Butler will fill in nicely at 7 for Poey. A strong running 8 would be great. But I'd most like a strong inside centre and a fullback. Godwin from the Force would be the best - I think a player like that who showed promise but hasn't quite got there in the last few years would excel...

    Reds 2017

A forward pack with Slipper, Moore, Douglas and Simmons is almost always going to be a good one. Should be strong in the set-piece having that core group of strong scrummagers and line-out operators. Sorry about the back-line.

Fly Horwill over? I'd prefer him over Carter... well if he can play like he did last Rugby Championship.

So it was the French game I was thinking of. I think this game gave people false optimism of his abilities.

Pretty sure we got smashed each game. Which reflected poorly in the wallabies G&GR ratings. Carter was probably one of the best on field for the wobs, so one of the best in an overall poor bunch. I think that's why people remember him being MOTM. The reality is that he is a very average test...
