Australia v England: Match III, SCG, Sat 16th July 7.55pm AEST

The upright tackle technique, or lack thereof, in League is just baffling

Speculating more on the Tupou et al. vs Thorn rift - interesting that Dave (Rennie) gets a mention, but not Thorn.

Isn't that that MLR team that got busted cheating?

He's only ~21, still plenty of bulk to come. Was really impressed by his appearances this year

    He isn't a Brumby though

HIIT (high intensity interval training) - pretty popular even in non-pro sport circles. Particularly good for cardio fitness and muscle endurance

The systematic review incorporates study samples from across the globe - it does seem as though the English comps have lower incidence/hours, but probably too many factors at play to say conclusively.

    Refereeing decisions

It’s about transparency and consistency between WR (World Rugby), referees, and the teams. There’s a reason it’s not done in the public eye - pretty poor of whoever it was in the meeting that leaked it

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

Yep - to clarify, I was flagging that, when it comes to the perception of intent (as opposed to interpretation of the law), there's a murkier zone. If they took the word 'deliberate' out of the ruling, controversy around the decisions would probably be far less.

    Refereeing decisions

Going with two hands would improve the perception of how realistic a chance it would be though, wouldn't it?

A truly deliberate knockdown is pretty obvious by the arm/wrist motion, as with a 'bat up' for a second attempt. It's the ones like Perese's that are somewhere in between that are the issue.

That's a tip, not a controlled pass ;) The law states you cannot deliberately throw or pass forward, which implies control - a deflection off an outstretched hand is not controlled. The fact that it's ruled a knock-on, instead of a forward pass, also highlights this distinction. There's probably...

Can you pass a ball that you never had?

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

A controlled pass/throw forwards is very different to a one handed tip while trying to catch it

    Wallabies 2023

This isn’t a sleight, but there’s regular commentary that players like Marika and Kerevi, whose main weapon is hard running, need to ‘expand their game’; when they try to, they’re criticised for it.

Bugger it, slot Wilson into the row

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

Yeah, it's purely reactionary - with the reaction times involved it physically can't be anything but. Possibly more emphasis on training an 'upwards' action is needed so that is the reaction, but the context of an intercept is probably too variable To adapt an Ayrton Senna quote: if you no...

World Rugby can't win either way - fans get pissed when the ref misses something and TMO doesn't/can't get involved, and fans get pissed when the TMO gets involved. Autonomy for the TMO to make correct calls (or flag things to be looked at by on-field team) is the lesser of two evils.

The guiding principles are a masterclass in using non-binding terms Edit: 18.8 would indicate that the TMO was correct to rule on the 50:22
