Only for 1 year then he saw the light!

    Shute Shield 2013

I meant to also point out that Uni are very close to the cap in 1st colts and Norths aren't far behind them

    Shute Shield 2013

Interesting to see how the clubs are going with player points at this time of year (see attached). A couple of observations: Uni only 18 points in 1st grade -- only 3 players with points! Souths don't have much head room to fit returning S15 players into the team Penrith 2nd grade has more...

    MANLY 2013

Randwick downing Souths yesterday was also against the run of all the tipsters. Not this one, but I am one-eyed and I kept quiet about it! It was good to see every tipster in Rugby News tipped Souths. I expect they'll all tip Uni this week as well.

The Wicks had 3 fresh reserves for 1st grade v Souths: Speechley, Goodbody, Paila. Goodbody (front rower) ended up at blind side flanker when he came on but none of them got very much game time. It will be interesting to see the approach against Uni ie pick the strongest teams across the grades...

    Colts 2013

There was a Henry Clunies-Ross at Trinity who ran about 11.5 secs for the 100 metres -- same guy? (Possibly descended from the family that ran Cocos Islands???)

I agree with you Sid, I'd prefer them to stick with the running-no-kicking game, but I'm a bit concerned that will play into Uni's "field position above all else" approach and mistakes at the back are what Uni thrives on. I liked Koteczky at the back rather than Ford on Saturday. He's a bit...

    Shute Shield 2013

Great attacking rugby -- well done 2 Blues!

Good report Sid! From where I was sitting (a long way away) it looked like Hart was carded for sliding into the tackle feet first (dangerous tackle?) to stop a try, but I may be wrong. The Souths lower grade coaching staff sitting near me were amazed that the Wicks didn't kick the ball in...

"The NSWRU has advised that this week the Referees will be setting up a sports ears receiver at Coogee Oval – this means that spectators/coaches will be able to use their sports ears to listen in to the Referees as they do at Super Rugby games." Wow, fancy being able to hear what the refs are...

    Shute Shield 2013

Good to see clubs putting on this sort of promotion. Hope the weather gods smile on you, Gibbo, although it sounds like the 4's might get a bit damp!

Should be a feast of running rugby at Coogee this Saturday with both Souths and Wicks playing similar attacking styles. Hope the ref can keep up!

2BF is this being played on the main ground ie between 2nd grade and 1st grade?

    Shute Shield 2013

Hugh, you're right about the inconsistency of effort. I also note that they are not all up-to-date eg Callum Fryer is still listed under Uni but he's moved to Randwick. Some of the photos don't line up with the Randwick players as well. Still, it's better than nothing and at least someone at...

    Shute Shield 2013

Not sure how long this has existed, but I've just noticed it on the NSWRU website (ie especially the player profiles). http://www.nswrugby.com.au/NSWRugby/ShuteShield/MediaGuide.aspx

Tip: Peter Samu and Lala Lam found plenty of gaps up the middle when the Wicks played the Rats.
