My first thought when I read Des' suggestion was that the Penrith players wouldn't travel so I think Dave's alternative is more likely to work.

I'm told he's gone to Edinburgh

He's definitely gone to Scotland (left 2 weeks ago) but I'm not sure to which club.

Hugh, you sound even more cynical than me!

Unfortunately I don't think the majority of clubs give a toss about "the spirit of the rules". They see finding loopholes as a challenge and there are any number of examples in both colts and grade of clubs exploiting any opportunity to gain an advantage. Much like on the field I guess!

I see the NSWRU website is as accurate as ever! The review of round 15 reports 3 tries to Nio (even though he didn't play) and 2 to Paia. This should be 3 tries to Patrick Hodgetts (whose dad will be very disappointed that the NSWRU has not recognised his first first grade tries) and Paia only...

Can't see how cutting funding to Premier clubs is going to save much. What's half of bugger all?

Big gap between 1sts and 2nds Dave!

Also don't forget the Wobblies are back in action from 17/8 (round 18) and I would assume the squad will be put in cotton wool after next week so it's unlikely Kepu will be seen at Coogee. We might see Mitchell for a game or 2 after the Argentina trip depending on when he has to be in France and...

We're so far under the radar that we haven't left the ground yet which also makes parachuting very risky! Dave, as much as I'd like to agree with you we really don't have the experience of the top 4's S15 players. On a dry track we'll score some tries, but so will the opposition.

I agree Pete, he would definitely get an exemption. I believe the qualification rule has an out for players returning from injury as long as they are registered with the club.

Interesting, he was also at Penrith for the 4th grade game so must have departed soon after. The Wicks seemed to swap their coaches around yesterday with them all looking after different grades. Maybe because Wade had to leave or maybe just to change things around a bit. Really strong effort...

Concord gets my vote for best all-round playing surface, facilities for players and spectators. The only downside for visitors (and I suspect most Wests supporters) is the bloody annoyingly noisy lower graders during the 1st grade game. What a pain in the arse they are!

Qaz, I especially like your last paragraph!

    Shute Shield 2013

The club was Southern and in several matches they named Marcus Heather (0 points) in the starting team and then replaced him with Tim Metcher (10 points) after a short period to stay under the points cap. They didn't break any rules, but I maintain they did exploit an unintended loophole. I...

Clubs should still receive a loyalty discount for long term players but to write off 100% of the points applicable to Wallabies and Super players after 5 years just creates headroom for the club to sign more players which was not the intention. The discount was supposed to protect clubs (and...

    Shute Shield 2013

The points penalty only applies to players who have played more than 34 first grade games across all clubs (6 points for 35-49 games, 10 points for 50 or more) so it really doesn't stop players changing clubs who can't make first grade. I've never criticised Uni for the way they have built the...
