    Shute Shield 2013

I seem to remember there were a few "casual" fill ins like Ben Batger and maybe even Hugh Perrett. I remember thinking at the time that Chris seemed to go to the Woods when he needed a replacement, but I didn't see any problem with his selections.

I thought he was heading o/s???

    Shute Shield 2013

It was a good point, but maybe it underlines what I have thought about Eastwood for some time ie they are a great team because they play as a team and there are no standout individuals. Having said that I do think that Mitch Lees and Jared Barry are both worthy of Super contracts.

Sorry Pete, missed your other question! I thought Boileau played very well and certainly he and Horwitz got the backline moving. Nugget didn't get on the field.

La La went OK, but hobbled off mid way thru the 2nd half (his knee is obviously an ongoing problem) and Samu also limped off just before him. Unfortunately I think we're relying too much on Connor to get to the breakdown and secure the ball as neither La La nor Paila are that mobile and as the...

Two important lessons from Saturday's loss: (1) we can't go into 1st grade games against strong opponents without a goalkicker (2) a line break is only as good as the support for the ball runner Cayden Matehaere made a successful comeback from injury and played the whole 2nds game at 12 so...

    Shute Shield 2014 Format

My concern is that for years people have been suggesting Waratah signings should be drafted to Penrith, other clubs should be prevented from poaching their players, money should be given to them, etc etc etc. I reckon it's reached the point where the NSWRU / SRU either has to shit or get off...

Good point Gibbo! Maybe they should see if Beale and O'Connor want to tag along also (and Dave Warner's apparently at a loose end too) to provide a contrast ;)

    Shute Shield 2014 Format

Bruce, I can't speak for others but my original post (see top) advocated keeping 12 teams. However, the "powers that be" have dropped enough hints that they support reducing the SS to 10 teams so the question of which teams would go is a valid one to consider here. Again as I said above, I'd...

Just noticed Drew Mitchell's name on the list. What's the point in him going if he's heading off to France anyway?

Don't pull your punches Bruce....let us know what you really think;) I agree with your comments, but what can you do.........come the revolution....

    Shute Shield 2013

This means all these guys are going to miss rounds 16 and 17 of the Shute Shield. Great for the players but what does it say about NSWRU's regard for the SS??? http://www.nswrugby.com.au/NSWRugby/News/NewsArticle/tabid/374/ArticleID/9853/Default.aspx

I would prefer amalgamations rather than clubs being dumped, but I guess its the same problem ie "as long as my club doesn't have to amalgamate"!

    Shute Shield 2014 Format

Your points about the uneven nature of the comp are very true. There are some clubs this year who obviously benefit from playing Penrith and Gordon twice whereas some clubs only play them once. Definitely an uneven playing field! I've asked this question on the forum before but, assuming...

    Shute Shield 2014 Format

Hmmmmm.....doesn't seem to match NF-J's comment in Rugby News a couple of weeks ago when he said we could end up with a 10 team comp in "the very near future".

    Shute Shield 2014 Format

I know it's only July but since the Shute Shield clubs and the NSWRU (and SRU?) have been discussing the format of the SS for next year for "the last 18 months" maybe we should canvas ideas from those who care most ie us! My suggestion is 12 teams, full home and away, 5 team playoffs...

Why is he aiming so low? Surely Balmain could be the 6th Aussie Super team;)

Currently running 3rd in the Kentwell Cup and 5th in the club championship.

No, sorry! He was a Hurricanes schools' rep before the Wicks lured him to Sydney but I don't know if he has actually signed with a ITM team yet.

I see Hepetema is planning to return to NZ after the SS to play in the ITM Cup. He's coming back to Oz though to try for a contract with the Tahs.
