I think your Maths is correct, Macca! I believe if 2 teams finish equal the number of wins is used to separate them before the F&A is looked at (ie wins are more important than bonus points). It is possible for all 3 team to finish on 40 points (ie Norths lose by 7 points or less and score 4...

Apparently he was a goal kicker at school (ie last year). IMO Koteczky has to be in the team and should be the goal kicker.

Maybe we should forget about the points in the run on team and just set a cap on the players registered with the club ie similar to the NRL salary cap system. Could that be tailored so that clubs don't have to shed existing players but put a break on them signing new players?

Another option may be to start the countdown on the 5 years' discount from when the player first starts playing S15. So a player attracts 10 points the year after he plays his first S15 game and it is discounted 2 points each year after that. If he makes the Wallabies he jumps up to 20 points...

They should be available (and maybe Mitchell) and that's the good news! The bad news is that the Uni team which put 95 points on Gordon last Saturday will be bolstered by the return from Argentina of: Betham Barnes Dennis McCutcheon Ryan Tilse Skelton Latu Talakai Winton If they can fit them...

    Shute Shield 2013

I'd like to say I have the solution, but I don't. I'm really just making the point that the current system doesn't achieve the intended outcome. Uni are very good at recruiting players whilst still at school and offering them Uni scholarships if they play rugby for Uni. By the time they pick up...

Must admit I was concerned to hear him (on the ABC) refer to 2 players by their first names on Saturday. I hope this is not going to become prevalent as it is in league. I'd much prefer "green no 7" to be used.

I thought the scrums were OK until Asa was replaced.

Improved performance from the Wicks today against one of the competition heavyweights and although soundly beaten in the end we were only down 25-19 with 20 minutes to go and the 4 try bonus point might just be enough to sneak us into the playoffs where I reckon we'll be competitive against...

Uses his height well in the lineouts and at the kickoffs, but needs to improve his mobility.

Unfortunately for club rugby and the SS the concentration of talent at Uni combined with their ultra professional management and depth of resources is good for rugby at the S15 and international level. Hence the reason why the NSWRU and ARU will never do anything about it and why the player...

Certainly hard to beat although they might lose a couple of these (eg Dennis, Phipps) to the Wobblies. BTW the above team only adds up to 60 player points (+whatever McCutcheon is worth, probably 0).....anyone still think the system is achieving the aim of spreading the talent???

I suppose I should be thankful that the Internet hadn't been invented when Randwick were dominating the SS and everyone was bashing them!:D

    Shute Shield 2013

I'd like to suggest that someone (Bruce Ross?) start a Sydney Uni thread so everyone who wants to have a go at them can use it instead of cluttering up this thread every few weeks with another round of Uni bashing posts. It's getting a bit repetitive and if the posts are all in the one place it...

I notice Matt Carraro has joined the Waratah team in Argentina from his French club side. I wonder if that means he'll be back at the Wicks next year, assuming he doesn't qualify to play this year.

I agree. Used well it can create tries (Horwitz is very good at it) but so often a cut out pass is thrown for no apparent reason and for no advantage. There's also the increased probability of it missing its mark ie the longer the pass the more difficult to execute accurately. The "old" flat...

Good point Sid! There was a great example in one of the lower grade games at Coogee last Saturday. The attacking team had 3 on 1 and the twit with the ball cut out 2 players and passed to the only player who was marked. Certain try bombed!
