    MANLY 2013

I agree he has been a prat and has brought a lot of this on himself. The best way to treat him is to ignore him as that takes away his business model ie attention seeking behaviour.

    Shute Shield 2013

Probably taken up as a liquid asset and consumed by the various hard working committees and sub-committees of the NSWRU ;)

    Shute Shield 2013

All appointed by and obviously answerable to the NSWRU. So they're really just a sub-committee within the NSWRU, but probably have their own wine cellar and allocation of free tickets to Waratah and Wallaby games. Hugh, your questions above are good ones and I'd be very interested in the answers!

Further to the above, the NSWRU's answer to every problem is to appoint more administrators, hence the reform of the SRU.

The only sign of the SRU since it was reformed is the logo on the Rugby News. What else do they do / have they done?

For the record, I don't hate Uni, in fact I admire them. My concern is that any competition which has such a huge yawning gap between top and bottom (ie Uni v Penrith) is unsustainable and has become the laughing stock of other codes. The NSWRU is fiddling while the SS is burning.

Good team v team of good players !?!?

    Shute Shield 2013

I assume you're confused due to the scoreline v Uni. The players I'm referring to were all either playing grade on the weekend or out injured eg Norton, Holmes-Baer, etc.

    Shute Shield 2013

How long have you got? IMO there were many factors: (1) the growth of Sydney Uni as "the place to play" if you want a rep career instead of Randwick (2) decline in finances (licenced club mainly but this drew money from the rugby club) to attract and retain players (3) failure to maintain...

LS, I agree with you. I've always thought that Tom adds a bit of personality to the game, but I guess it's the same as asking NZ crowds to stop bagging Quade Cooper. Once something like this starts it's very hard to stop. PS: It's not just "boozed up 4th graders" who bag him every week.

Anyone know why the ABC is doing the games they've selected for this weekend? Wests Harbour (5) v Randwick (8) on Saturday University (2) v Manly (3) on Sunday Just seems a bit strange that they're doing 1 knockout game and 1 top 4 game.

    Shute Shield 2013

Informer, I wasn't at the game on Saturday and I'm disappointed that there were (I assume) Randwick supporters behaving in the fashion you've described. However, I'd suggest you are being unfair if you are assessing a club's culture based on the behaviour of a group of their supporters. Every...

    Shute Shield 2013

Belly, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek as I do understand that the clubs fill out the registration forms. But the NSWRU can override the points if insufficient evidence is provided. Whether it was Randwicks fault or not I really was just trying to underline the fact that the system sucks...

    Shute Shield 2013

Good point George! Jeremy (and others) would benefit from playing against SUFC and maybe even SUFC would benefit from playing against some of their own players at other clubs. I think this is the point: having all the talent in the one club does NOT lift the overall standard or even ensure the...

    Shute Shield 2013

Unfortunately I doubt anyone from the NSWRU or SRU (whoever they are) gives a rat's arse about any of the concerns expressed above. We're told the admin brains have been working "for some time" on a revamp of the SS and we should expect "an announcement shortly". I wonder who they consulted and...

    Shute Shield 2013

There are plenty of clubs with room in their cap to sign players like him. Uni don't sign any player unless they see future potential and my expectation was that the points system would inevitably force Uni to shed some players or stop signing youngsters, but that has not occurred. In fact, I...

    Shute Shield 2013

Hugh, my understaning is that the loyalty discount was introduced as a TEMPORARY measure so clubs would not be forced to jettison long serving players when the points system was first introduced. It was only to be applied to current long serving rep players at the time of introduction and it was...

    Shute Shield 2013

If the above isn't stupid enough I just noticed that Stephen Hoiles who hasn't played for 2 years and came off the bench in 2nd grade was hit with 20 player points !!! Surely that can't be right when we've got current S15 players and recent test players with 0 points??? He's been with...

    Shute Shield 2013

Sorry, I know I'm flogging a dead horse, but the player points system has become a complete farce and is achieving absolutely nothing. On Saturday Uni's 1st grade run on side full of S15 and test players totalled 34 player points (13 of which belonged to Tom Kingston). They had another 31...

    Galloping Greens

Yep! And there's always draws as well of course! 2 points to each team unless they score 4 tries in which case they get 3 points (but no extra bonus point for not losing by more than 7 points).
