RWC: AUS v WAL (Twickenham): POOL A; 2:45am (AEDT) Sunday 11 October

I think some others might have been optimistic. And some of us might even have been singing Foley's praises since before you heard of him.

At the risk of labouring the obvious: - We're able to beat them, although of course we're not the favourites - We're on an obvious upwards trajectory, they seem not to be, so the later the better, although of course they might be foxing - The later we play them, the more likely they are to choke...

SA are a mystery. On paper their team is phenomenal.

Nah. The shearer strike was a formative event in our own country's past. The equivalent would be Jamaicans singing Swing Low.

Giving Sanchez a boot in the melon should be subtracted from the shoulder to Mike Brown's head, to provide the real net value for the offence. Also the size of Brown's head should be taken into account. Admittedly this opens up the possibility of a player punching one of their own teammates...

That's the crux of it for me too. It's a cringingly inappropriate song for the English upper classes to sing. It's booty from an airbrushed past.

Yellow carded. Citings are for red card offences.

You have to use your arms nowadays. It was Bakkies Botha who caused that interpretation to come about, as I recall.

He shouldn't. No arms isn't currently being treated as a red card offence.

It'll be like an experiment in particle physics, in which they can both pass through the same space without touching each other.

No, I haven't been on PR in months. I spoke to the person in question. They were pretty unhappy about the PR thread, since it was supposed to be personal. But you probably don't believe that. :)

Tht's true. All English rugby and league fans know all about Burgess. There's a sneaking obsession amongst English rugby fans with league, not dissimilar to here. But Burgess' selection was highly controversial in English rugby circles. I heard some tasty first-hand scuttlebutt from someone...

The England team were fine pre-game, I thought. A bit of trash talking but nothing OTT, and certainly no worse than our blokes regularly do (but which Cheika usually stops). But the British press were strutting, vainglorious toadies. No Wallabies in the England XV. Heh. Someone please buy Danny...

That's what we do in our best years: get our noses in front if the ABs - or well in front once or twice, eg 1998-9.

    Rugby Quotes of the Week

A good one from Paul Hayward of the Torygraph: "Sport with this cargo of tension is borderline unwatchable." So true. I was squirming with tension the whole game. That's why it's better watching the game with friends in a pub, rather than at home. It's substantially more relaxed.

The good thing was the depth of the win. All the specialisms did good. The Poms were by no means toothless. A lot of their attack was extremely challenging. But the Wobs kept scrambling. And we fcuked them up in the scrum.

They've answered their doubters the right way, with some good play.
