Yep, I agree Pete! Interesting to see how he goes in 1st grade. I think he spent most of last year in 3rds didn't he?

I wouldn't underestimate the player level -- there's usually at least one brawl across the grades every times these two clubs play each other and plenty of celebrating by the winners in all grades.

Manly also look very strong Dave. Plenty of fringe S15 players.

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I think if you do the maths some club, S15 and Wallaby players will be assigned to NRC teams that have no relationship to the club teams they currently play for. If not, some of the teams (eg the country teams) won't be competitive. I would hope that whoever does the allocation of players at...

Wow, strong team! Looks like a big year for the Woodies. Good to see John Grant back.

Well done Gibbo! I was very impressed by Gordon Broome in the games I saw him play last year. One to watch this year I reckon!

Some good reviews of the teams on Rugby News website. Manly, West Harbour, Penrith are there at the moment, hopefully the others will follow. http://www.rugbynews.net.au/

    Shute Shield 2014

This Club Rugby Forum is starting to look a bit cluttered with all the NRC clubs jumping on board. Maybe there should be a separate forum for the NRC.

But they will be playing their 4 home games at country venues. The Moore Park base gives them access to the Waratah's facilities.

    National Rugby Championship 2014

My question was a bit tongue-in-cheek regarding them coming to Wicks or Easts. However, you would have to assume that if the NRC uncovers potential S15 players who are currently based in the country the Sydney clubs will try to entice them to the SS, and the players themselves may decide to...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I agree there's some great grounds in country areas like Mudgee etc but it could be a problem getting Fox Sports there. I suspect that's one of the reasons the country team will be based at Moore Park, at least for the first year.

I wonder how many country players will move to Randwick or Easts next year ???

The next exciting development will be the allocation of players to the teams. That should keep this forum enthralled for the next little while :D

    Sydney University Football Club

TC had a great game for the Tahs v British Lions last year and seemed to have been given a free hand to play his own game. I agree it's great to see him playing on to help the students out and I'm sure the supporters of a few rival clubs will be pleased to see him as well ;)

Interesting thought Tomikin...where would the Brumbies be if all their Queensland and NSW players did decide to "pull a Hooper"?

    Shute Shield 2014

Good analysis Hugh! The only other point is that players can never be discounted to less than 50% of their points for any reason ie not just for long service. So even a category F player can never have less than 1 point. In fact no player will ever have zero points if I'm interpreting this...

    Shute Shield 2014

Bruce, not sure why you see the points systems as a crude attempt to nobble Uni. My understanding was that it was intended to (1) spread the available talent more evenly across the clubs and make the SS more interesting = bums on seats and (2) encourage clubs to develop their own juniors rather...

    Shute Shield 2014

Dave, yes you're right -- that didn't occur to me until I was in the car driving home! We'll have to see how it pans out but I think it's unlikely there will be much impact at all in 1st grade.

    Shute Shield 2014

Dave, I'll run it through the random number generator overnight, but from first glance it looks like the most significant difference is that the discount for long service has been reduced from 100% discount for 5 years or more service with the club to 50% discount for 8 years or more service...
