West Harbour beat us to the punch!

I understand Dave, but I can tell you the Randwick brand (I hate that word!) is still strong in NZ. I worked there for 12 months in 2011-12 and it was the only Sydney rugby club most people had heard of. They knew all the league teams due to the TV exposure. I've also been told that Randwick is...

Beale and Kepu were already contracted to the Tahs before they went to Randwick. Carraro came from the Vikings / Brumbies to the Tahs and then the Wicks. So really only Horwitz could have been in the category of being directed to the Wicks if he wanted to play at the Tahs, so I agree with you...

No idea, Dave, but maybe they saw the number of experienced first graders who've left Randwick to go to other clubs since last season and thought there might be some vacancies in first grade. Hope they don't expect to get paid!

Everyone knows someone who met someone once whose second cousin met a guy in a pub who told him that somebody's son was told to go and play at Randwick or Uni or Easts or.....;)

Braveheart, I couldn't agree more! Any player who changes clubs now because he thinks he knows which teams are going to be in the NRC and because he thinks that will improve his chances of playing in the NRC is nuts!

Not sure of the relevance but Randwick have won 3 since 1995 -- 3rd behind Uni and Eastwood. Why do you think that S15 players allocated to the 3T teams will then become part of the next year's SS team? BTW, I'm not saying I agree with the process, I'm just explaining why I think they may...

We seem to be getting bogged down in this discussion about stand alone clubs. I've suggested previously that Sydney Uni is the only club in Australia that has the player roster to be able to stand alone with it's own players. However, I think we need to look on the 3T teams as being different...

    Shute Shield 2014

I believe the first week is: 1 v 6 2 v 5 3 v 4 Not sure what happens after that, but I'm guessing the 2 lowest losers from week 1 get eliminated.

The S15 preliminary rounds finish on 12/7 which coincides with round 16 of the SS so why is everyone assuming the S15 players not required for the S15 playoffs won't be available for the SS final series? In theory they could play the last 2 rounds of the SS and the finals before the 3T comp starts.

Me too! BTW, noticed that Stephen Hoiles has been named at #6 in the Waratah's first trial game as an "invited player". Good luck Steve -- a great player who's has wretched luck over the last few years. Hope he succeeds to picking up a S15 contract. Also noticed that Matt Carraro has been...

For the record, I don't hate Uni. I do hate the culture of mismanagement by NSWRU, ARU and SRU that has allowed one club to dominate the recruitment of young players and the unwillingness to make the player points system achieve its intended objectives. It's crazy to hate Uni for doing what...

Train, it would be interesting to see whether support for the NRC (ie the bums on seats at the games) comes from club supporters v S15 v Wallaby supporters as they aren't necessarily the same people. A lot of club supporters in Sydney don't attend S15 and Wallaby games (but watch on TV instead)...

Belly I don't disagree with either of your suggested rule changes but I do believe it would be a mistake to apply either of these to the NRC in isolation. They would fundamentally change the game tactically and having such significant differences between the NRC and S15 / internationals is...

TWAS, I wasn't suggesting the tribes were large....I was just making the point that those who do follow club rugby (in Sydney anyway) are passionate about their club. IMO one of the problems the ARC had in attracting bums on seats was caused by the scattering of players from the same club side...

Interesting that some earlier posts have mentioned the BBL when discussing the NRC. The BBL is successful as it's a very different product to test or ODI cricket and probably attracts spectators who are not that interested in the longer forms of the game. Is this what Pulver is looking for with...

From Southern Districts website: "Your Board has been represented at two meetings one with the Eastern Suburbs and Randwick Clubs and again with a Western Sydney Group of Clubs (namely West Harbour, Parramatta, Penrith and Eastwood) and have submitted preliminary expressions of interest along...

The S15 competition rounds finish on 12/7 with the final scheduled for 2/8. The revised draft Shute Shield draw has the comp starting on 29/3 with the GF scheduled for 16/8. That seems to suggest that players from S15 teams which don't make the playoffs could be available to their SS clubs for...
