Probably, but don't assume you'll be invited to attend. I wonder which February the succesful tenderers will be announced?

The ARU website states: Applications will close on Friday 13 January 2014, which will be followed by a formal tendering process, with successful teams expected to be announced in February 2014. Hmmm....does the ARU have a different calendar to the rest of us or is it just another case of them...

As I've suggested previously, I believe Fox's involvement is more about protecting their exclusive S15 coverage rather than any great desire to show one NRC game per week. My understanding is that their S15 agreement expires in a year or two and they are concerned about the free to air channels...

Anyone know whether the teams who are initially selected for the NRC are in for the first 2 years or do they have to re-apply for the second year? What happens if they are uncompetitive or don't fulfill the criteria in year 1? As I've suggested before, Uni are the only Sydney team (IMO) who...

Whatever you might think about Sydney University I would suggest they fit the criteria (except for the venue) more than any other Sydney club. It's always tempting to look for hidden agenda's and promote conspiracy theories but I must admit I wonder why the ARU is prepared to accept stand alone...

I think it's worth keeping in mind when discussing where teams should be based etc that "the cost of establishing, staffing, preparing and running the team and home match day costs will be borne by the team, who will take the match day receipts". I assume "running the team" includes payments to...

The 42 pages of this forum prove that they've at least been successful getting us to talk and think about it! Hope they find a good way to promote the games outside of the closed pay TV community. I seem to remember it was a bit of a chore to even find out what games were been player and where...

Extracts from Ben Whitaker's Q&A re TV coverage. He has a great future in politics if he decides to move on. He's already mastered the art of not answering the question ;) 3. Why only one live match and depending on how the NRC is received is there a possibility of showing more matches? We...

No, not for 1 game per week. Although I will attend games in Sydney where possible. As I've suggested before, Foxtel have probably just got on board with this to try to protect their exclusive S15 coverage. I doubt they believe rugby followers who don't already subscribe are going to sign up...

    Shute Shield 2014

Can't speak for "a few years ago" but Wade Kelly stood up in front of all the players at the beginning of 2013 and told them nobody was going to be paid to play. Only a few left the club.

    Shute Shield 2014

I know this is only a hypothetical discussion, but are you suggesting that if Uni did succeed in entering a team they wouldn't necessarily have access to their S15 players? Have you seen / heard something which suggests the ARU is going to allocate S15 players to the 3 teams? I would have...

    Shute Shield 2014

I hope you're right! I must admit I'm perplexed about the ARU asking for expressions of interest rather than sitting down with the SS clubs (and maybe the Subbies) and deciding how to structure the 3 Sydney teams. The EOI application asks the applicants to tick a box to indicate whether they...

Hey, Rugby Central, come on, fess up --- you're really Bill Pulver in disguise aren't you? ;) PS: Please don't assume that everyone who cares about the future of club rugby is anti 3T or is being negative, but there's plenty of evidence that the ARU and NSWRU's ongoing lack of support for...

    Shute Shield 2014

Not sure Crashy, I've moved out of the area and don't really take much interest in league these days. But I did visit the club for dinner a couple of years ago and the ballroom which used to host shows with international artists is now a chinese restaurant and most of the bottom floor seemed to...

Interesting quotes from Bill this morning: Mr Pulver said in addition to providing additional broadcast content, the National Rugby Championship will generate extra revenue for Rugby. Successful teams will be selected based on a number of criteria including: financial performance...
