    Melbourne Rebels 2011

The Storm seem to really want to help the Rebels get established at their expense. http://www.theage.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/storm-fan-faces-legal-threat-20110119-19wmr.html Nothing breeds loyalty from fans like threatening to sue them for defamation.

The Australian Points out what we already knew; Giteau is close to signing in france

I thought Super Rugby contracts ran until around December/January and were on a yearly basis. Can anyone confirm?

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

Be interesting to see how the numbers end up, but I'm going with the Rebels for slight win. I think in places there is still a bit of stink about the Storm, and that will see them drop a few members this year. Based on that it seems mad that they are not getting their advertising going as early...

All these Aus local derbies ...................... better?

Might need to wait a few years for Rod's run to come to an end. As a Rebels supporter I don't like the idea of Rod having to present himself his own trophy every year. Remember he is now the coach of the only Super Rugby franchise to have never lost a match (well at least he is this week).

    Rugby Kits and Style

When I started playing school rugby in 1996, we still had leather balls in the kit bag. From that and my aussie rules experience, leather balls are fine in the dry and become a water-logged horror in the wet. They look good, but give me a synthetic ball to play with any day.

All these Aus local derbies ...................... better?

The conference system is great for the Rebels as a new side coming in in a non-Rugby market. A bit of state against state rivalry is something Vics love. Marketed right it will work for the Rebs, and establishing our team is the most important thing for me at the moment.

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

Fair enough. Had only been going on the papers as I haven't played or been involved in Rugby down here since about 1999. Got my Rebs jersey this arvo. Replica means it is replica in shape also. I fill out the middle bit, but the top and waist are sadly lacking. en_force_er - are you part of...

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

I believe some, but the only one that has really been publicised so far is Chris Slade who has been playing Dewar Shield for the last few years. The news has been pretty thin on the ground so far. Might need bluesrecovery to chime in here, because he seems to have the best info re: the Rebels of...

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

It is going to be pretty much everyone except Mortlock, Freier, Gerrard, Huxley and Rooney. Apparently they will start the first half with one team, and then use a different combination for the second half.

    Reds 2011

Is this the ultimate cross-training in the face of adversity whilst helping the community at the same time?

The trial game against the Crusaders will also be a fundraiser. The Rebels are hoping to raise $500k for the flood appeal.

    Rugby Kits and Style

We had a back of some description who wore track pants in a U16 game. Apparently it was too cold for him to take them off. Our coach wasn't at the game that day so we had a teacher supervising who had no idea, but I still can't believe the ref let him get away with it.

Did they have jockeys doing a haka in those pics?

They will be using extended teams with additional substitutions so they can test combos, but not sure as to who exactly will form part of the extended team.

Just found the clash jersey on the Rebels merchandise page.

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

Although the captain delivering the message in a foreign accent would be a point of difference from the other twelve professional football teams in Melbourne. Just basing this on the membership DVD player profiles, Gareth Delve to me was by far the most impressive guy on there. Having said that...

George Smith to Sanyo Wild Knights

"Aurait accepte" roughly translates to "has accepted". "Lui ont propose" translates roughly to "made him an offer". Never did schoolboy French but went out with a French chick for three years (given we are quoting our qualifications). I may run this past my mates kid at the T20 Big Bash tonight...

    Channel 9 Commentary Team

I would look at Adam Freier. His press articles indicate he is a decent thinker on the game, and he seems to speak pretty well to the camera. As a special comments guy, not a play by play. I know he isn't retired but I can't see him breaking his way back into the Wallabies squad so the timing...

    Australia Rugby Cup

One of the parts I am struggling with is locating what will essentially be an amateur squad of Perth based players in Sydney for 5 weeks with timing that is likely to clash with either university or work commitments of the players. Or is the intention to have the Force squad guys making up this...

JON get off your arse and buy us some Inglis

Apparently the Rebels have now contacted GI's manager, according to Fairfax. Just imagined Inglis 12, Mortlock 13. Thats about 220 to 230 kgs of centre there. Scary.
